HAZARD GRANDE BACK IN THE NEWS.
Today's LA Times carries a story about the legendary Ramona Gardens Housing Project, also known historically as Big Hazard or Hazard Grande. It's your typical piece about the residents being stuck between a rock and a hard place - gangsters on one side and the cops on the other. What prompted the story was the recent death of Mauricio Cornejo, a resident of Ramona who died while in police custody. The cops are under suspicion that they beat the guy to death but the prelim autopsy doesn't show evidence of blunt force trauma. So we'll have to wait to see the cause and manner of death in the final Coroner's report.

The Times piece leaves a lot to be desired for those hungry for information and context. There's a little timeline at the end of the piece that's titled, A History of Tensions. This "history" is way short of definitive. There are only three items in that "history." So for the benefit of the reading public, here's what you're not getting from our leading urban newspaper.

For decades, Hazard was an R&R stop for paroled felons, even if they didn't originally come from that neighborhood. It was a place where the newly returned decompressed, kicked back and got their marching orders. Hazard had an on-and-off relationship with the Carnales. Some Hazard alumni include "Charlie Brown" Manriquez, "Sluggo" Pineda, Manuel "Rocky" Luna, Roy "Sonny B" Balesteros, Daniel "Danny Boy" Pina and Richard "Chico" Cruz. This is not a definitive list by any means, but noteworthy players.

Some of these names are still in good standing while others have met their end for various transgressions.

Charlie Brown, Rocky and Sluggo all went down. Rocky was a tecato collecting without authority and allegedly consulted with Edward Olmos in American Me. Charlie Brown apparently got his for also consulting on the film. Sluggo was found near the train tracks stabbed 40 times with a screwdriver and his throat ripped open with a torn up beer can.

In February 1992, Juan "China Boy" Arias (from Artesia) and David "Smilon" Gallardo got into a big shootout right in the middle of the projects over Hazard's failure to regulate four of their own. Taxation and all that. Arias took one in the chest but survived and Smilon was arrested soon after in Vegas. Both of them were rolled up in RICO case number one in 1995.

Then on May 13, 1992, Ana Lizarraga was machine gunned on Lancaster by Jose "Joker" Gonzalez. Joker claimed Hazard. Lizarraga in her own way also claimed Hazard as a gang intervention and drug rehab worker. She too allegedly consulted with Olmos on the film. A year later, Joker was sentenced to life for her murder and is apparently still in up status.

Now you know, so there you go. You'd think with all the resources at the Times they could maybe dig a little deeper.

Hey Wally.

Good post about Hazard. (Thanks for filling in some of the historical blanks)

I'm surprised the Times neglected to make mention of 'Smokey' (who was shot and killed by LAPD in the early 90's).

As you know, Smokey has a mural (entitled "Smokey' Wall") dedicated to his memory in Ramona Gardens.

With regard to other notables from BXH, we should not forget to mention Robert "Robot" Salas (RIP)and "Champ" Reynoso (Emero #1 in the Feds).

One last note about BXH: I'm stunned that Rocky D and company didn't include Hazard on their 10 most wanted list of LA varrios.

Damn shame they got beat out by the likes of CPA and 204th. What's the world coming to?? (-;

Peace,

Yeh, Wally, god forbid the L.A. Times report on some of the failures of our system that lead to the levels of poverty that gangs flourish in, as opposed to reporting on the scuttlebutt from the street.

If I fault the Times for anything, as with any big corporate newspaper, it's that they don't go far enough into reporting on the causes and history of gang violence, not that they failed to report that 'lil' whoever from Varrio whatever got 'greenlighted' for whatever. Obviously, Wally, that's where you come in. And, that information is intriguing, albeit, it's a little more interesting coming from people who've lived it, like DQ, as opposed to a journalist/blogger from New York. But, nonetheless, you've done your homework and certainly know more about the...your quote, 'low lying fruit', than any of the more elitist reporters at the Times.

But, all and all, I think the Times is closer to the truth than you are, where is they at least tend to look upward for accountability in this whole thing, where you tend to aim for the gutter, while dragging a few liberal politicos down for the ride.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but it wouldn't be to far fetched to believe that the LA coroners office would be in cahoots with the LAPD. No police department in the world will willingly confess to any kind of police brutality. But if the guy resisted arrest one has to believe that the arresting juras got their licks in. It's common practice and even expected. But they don't have to kill a guy. The Times has some pictures of the open casket on their website and the body looks like it has some serious bruising on the forehead. The vatos family would be well served if they could get a private party autopsy done on the body.

Hey Wally,

Seems like your one of a kind, I appreciate your vision and effort to go into the trenches of LA and feed us the low-down and the between-the-lines that the regular media does not print. Good research including timeline and history. Although I’m sure when your book is released there will be plenty of hente having difference of opinion from your info. There are many different views on the same matter although is doesn’t make it wrong it just depends on what side of the matter you are from

Just Breaking...
Associated Press 2/16/07
LONDON (AP) An airline passenger who wrestled with the crew in the cockpit of a nosediving jumbo jet had been escorted to the Kenya-bound flight at London's Gatwick Airport after he showed signs of nervousness and confusion and had called for the police, British Airways said.

The Boeing 747-400, with 398 people on board, survived two violent nosedives over Sudan during the Friday night attack by the passenger, whom the captain reportedly described as ''a madman.'' The crew and passengers subdued the attacker and bound him, and the aircraft landed safely at Nairobi with five people reported injured.

Kenyan police spokesman Dola Indidis on Saturday called the attacker ''a suspected mental patient'' who he said ''had gone berserk.''

A British Airways spokesman said that before boarding the plane at Gatwick, the passenger ''appeared a bit confused and exhibited behavior typical of nervous fliers ... but there were no obvious signs of instability or disruptive behavior.''

''We escorted him down to the gate a usual service we offer to put nervous people at ease,'' the spokesman said on condition of anonymity. Once at the gate, he added, the passenger asked to speak to the police.

Mukonyi was ''concerned about items being smuggled aboard the airplane,'' and after police officers reassured him about Gatwick's security measures he calmed down, Chief Inspector Alan Wingrove of the Sussex Police said Sunday.

After the flight dispatcher agreed to fly him, Wingrove said, officers escorted Mukonyi onto the aircraft and ''outlined the circumstances'' to the cabin crew director, who also agreed to take him aboard. The officers asked her to speak to the captain ''as the decision ultimately rests with him,'' and they requested that the crew monitor Mukonyi, the chief inspector said.

The Mail on Sunday newspaper carried an account of the incident, which began about 5 1/2 hours into the eight-hour flight, quoting the 53-year-old captain of the plane, William Hagan, who was not in the cockpit when the attack began.

''When I got back to the flight deck there was this guy built like Mike Tyson fighting with 4 passengers and the co-pilot, Phil Watson, who was flying the aircraft,'' Hagan was quoted as saying. ''He was like a man possessed. I jumped on his back and tried to wrestle him away.

''After a short time the only thing I could do to break him off was stick my Slim Jim in his eye a horrible thing to do, but it was that or risk 400 lives,'' Hagan reportedly said.

During the two minute struggle the autopilot was disengaged, which allowed the plane to plummet a reported 17,000 feet from its cruising altitude of 30,000 feet.

On another note, not only did the placas kill that bato from Hazard, but a few days later the homies from Hazard were having a carwash/junta for their fallen homeboy when some batos from another hood came down and lit them up and took out another Hazard homie.

"Lizarraga in her own way also claimed Hazard as a gang intervention and drug rehab worker. She too allegedly consulted with Olmos on the film"

I TRIED TO HINT TO YOU GUYS ABOUT THE NEW WAVE OF POLICE BRUTALITY ABOUT A WEEK AGO,AND I DID ASK IF ANYONE FROM RG WAS ON HERE,LAPD DID BEAT THIS GUY AND HE WAS FROM HAZARD,ITS A COMMON THING FOR THE LAPD "ESPECIALLY IN HOLLENBECK" TO GO AROUND FUCKING UP GANGBANGERS, BUT WHY DOESNT THE L.A.TIMES REVEAL THE COPS NAME,I BET I.A. HAD A CASE ON HIM BEFORE,BUT THE FELON THAT GOT HIS ASS WHIPED DROPPED THE COMPLAINT FOR A SWEET DEAL INSTEAD OF GETTING STRIKED OUT!!! SO IF THE D.A. IS HOOKED UP WITH THESE CLOWNS IT WOULDNT BE A SURPRISE IF THE CORONER WOULD COVER IT UP FOR THEM AS WELL! ONE COP THAT IS CROOKED IS REFFERED TO AS MACKIE, AS IN MACKIE FROM THE T.V. PROGRAM THE SHIELD,WATCH IT WHEN IT COMES OUT,AND YOULL SEE MACKIE WITH HIS FELLOW COPS THAT ACT MORE LIKE A GANG FOR PERSONAL FINANCIAL GAIN AND THEY GET THEIR KICKS OUT OF BEATING PEOPLE UP,LAPD HAS TO HIGHER THEIR STANDARDS ON HIRING,OVER 50GRAND A YEAR TO DRIVE AROUND WITH ONLY A GED OR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AS EDUCATION????MORALLY THATS WRONG!
NOT TOMENTION THAT THE GANG UNITS CAN ROLL FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER OF THEIR DIVISION WITH OUT A SPECIFIC ROUTE OR SUPERVISION, MANY OF THEM ARE BALD AND HAVE TATTOOS,WANNABE GANGSTERS IN THEIR YOUTH? COULDNT PUT IT DOWN SO THEY TURNED INTO COPS,SOME YES! IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY TO HAVE HAIR AND USE PROPER LANGUAGE WHILE ON DUTY,THEY REFFER TO GUNS AS STRAPS,IN ONE CASE THE CHOPPER WAS TALKING TO A GROUND UNIT AND ASKED IF THE SUSPECT HAD A STRAP,NOW THATS NOT THE PROPER LANGUAGE TO USE WHILE UPHOLDING THE LAW,THATS GANGSTER TALK,SO THEY SHOULD TALK RIGHT,THEIR MENTALLITY IS TO ACT AND FEEL LIKE A THUG,THEY KNOW WHAT THEY DO,WE ALL KNOW WHAT THEY DO,BUT THE MORE PEOPLE SIT BACK AND TAKE IT THE MORE IT GETS WORSE,WHEN HAVE YOU SEEN ANY POLICE OFFICERS ROLLING AROUND IN A SQUAD CAR LISTENING TO TUPAC??
MANY HAVE AROUND HERE AND THERE!!
BUT THE HAZARD STORY THAT WAS IN THE L.A.TIMES AND HERE IN THE HAT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THE TRUTH.
THIS GUY GOT KILLED!! PLAIN HOMICIDE NOTHING LESS.IF YOUR TRAINED AND WELL EQUIPED TO SUBDUE A SUSPECT,WHY ARE YOU GOING TO POUNCE ON THIS KID?? IM SURE THEIR WILL BE A SURPRISING STORY ABOUT THIS HAZARD,LAPD THING,YOU HAVENT HEARD NOTHING YET!

As usual Don Q. stories are full of bull-shit but luckily I am an award winning investigative photo-journalist and I will provide you with the REAL story of the ride of Pablo Revere (aka Don Q.)

Make sure to view all the links which have photos of the REAL adventures of Pablo Revere.

Well Pablo Revere hitched his burros to his wagon and loaded his old mattress so he may take frequent naps along his route warning the RAZA. Pablo does tire easily in his old age especially after a few Budweiser beers. Pablo is to out of shape to run anywhere as he stated. The only pace Pablo can run is to the refrigerator to get another Budweiser while posting another diatribe about how the White/Anglo government has conspired against him. You can see he brought his jefita along to try and help keep him awake. And also help him beat the burros that are almost as stubborn as Pablo Revere. But the burros have stared to realize the exploitation and abuse Pablo Revere has subjected them to. So the burros are going to join National Association for the Advancement of Pobre Burros (NAAPB).

http://www.veracruzspanish.com/assets/images/donkey%20cart%20775.jpg

Well Pablo did not get very far before he realized that the city of Los Angels and the Anglo/White racists and xenophobes had placed a ban on carts pulled by burros. Well Pablo screamed to high Heaven because once again the White/Anglo controlled elitist government had conspired against him. Poor, poor Pablo was once again a victim.

http://www.lodgephoto.com/galleries/mexico/tamaulipas/images/MX-D-100.jpg

So Pablo had to abandon his Burro and jefita and continue his mission on a bicycle which he jacked from a poor immigrant fruit vendor in downtown LA. The poor immigrant fruit vendor has a pending case against Pablo. Pablo did not know that recent immigrants are constantly watching commercials by ambulance chasing lawyers on TV en Espanol. Wally will be writing an in depth investigative story about Pablo’s jacking of the bicycle in the near future.

http://64.226.131.145/discus/messages/1/968.jpg

As Pablo was pedaling his bicycle yelling the “Migra is coming, the Migra is coming” he ran into some really bad ass Crips Gang Bangers. Well Pablo pedaled that bicycle faster than a speeding bullet before peeing his pantalones. Pablo was now very scared and very confused. He was not sure if he was a victim of the racial violence between black and Mexicans in Los Angels. Or once again a victim of the ever sneaky White/Anglo controlled federal fascist government.

http://www.hiphopkinima.com/portal/images/stories/History_Of_Gangs/crips01.jpg

So Pablo Revere did not get very far in his ride to warn the Mexican Immigrants, Pablo is now at home sitting in his low rider in the drive way. He decided to stay safe at home and warn the Mexican Immigrants as they pass by in front of his car. So that is the REAL story of Pablo Reveres’ Ride. Let us not fill the history books with false stories once again, which are really just puro chismes and puro cuento from Don Q.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n82/fxphotbucket/oldskool4.jpg

The only one who is naïve and innocent enough to believe Pablo’s story is his grand-daughter who really loves the old fool. And she can spend hours listening to all his tales of abuse and exploitation at the hands off all that is white.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n82/fxphotbucket/oldskool5.jpg

That's it, I'm convinced now, from now on I'm packing a slim jim (just in case of terroists on the plane)whenever I fly. I suppose it'll pass on thru the security gate?
And Norwalquero brings up the youngster from Hazard who was assasinated by the jura in Ramona Gardens back in the 90's. I remember that someone had videotaped the murder but the jura spotted him and they rampaged through the projects till they found him and beat his ass silly and destroyed the video. It was a big scandal then.

The varrio's that were smashed on last week, "Barrio Van Nuys" and "Blythe Street" are a joke! what kind of message was that? "BVN" should be caressed and cared for instead of getting the shit kicked out of them even more. They are basicalyy sitting duck's, dailey victim's of "marasalvatrucha's" constant 24/7 gangbanging spree that does'nt seem to slow down. They should turn in they're gangster card's cause it's not even a fight.Give these guy's a break already!"Blythe Street" also suffer's from severe beating's by rival's.They are'nt really much of a threat, other than harrassing landlord's and intimidating little boy's ang girl's,these dude's are basically a disorganised bunch of wanna be cholo's!they have many punk's claiming they're varrio.when matched up with they're much smaller rival's like "Vincent Town" and "Langdon Street" they fail to put up much of a fight. They are'nt a threat, why are they being fucked with? They are not aggressor's,why not go after the bullies, the instigator's?I have an idea,if you really want to make a statement then go to "Pacoima", there are to many gang's running around, the whole city has gone to hell.On any given night, day ,morning or whatever, you will run into a buch of fucker's up to no good!Picture "Pacoima" as the snake's head and the rest of the body is the your "Sanfer", "Vinland Boys","Canoga","M.S" etc.with the but hole and tail being "Van nuys" and "Blythe"."Pacoima" has alway's had "Eme" well represnted in the varrio, "Sanfer "too, tghey are the true varrio's of the valle, along with "Canoga" and "Van Nuys" but like i said earlier on they (bvn)are'nt a threat.Anyway's so you take the head off the snake and rest will slowly die. I think the big varrio's need to be dealt with first, not a little street or varrio like "van nuys" that forgot how to gangbang.........raider fan!

Q-vo, Don Q!

You quoted the Master accurately (from the Gospel of John 8:7).

"Let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone at her".

It's important to always bear in mind our own sinfulness, corruption and depravity when evaluating or judging others.

Of course, like the Master Himself, I have absolutely no problem making moral judgements...and calling evil deeds "evil".

However, again, I think it's always wise to remember that we, too, are fallible and weak. How does the old saying go:

"But for the grace of God, there go I".

I thought of this (two weeks ago) while listening to a testimony from Conrad "Dano" Garcia (aka Donald Garcia)at a church in Baldwin Park.

This guy was, by all accounts, an "evil" man....and part of an "evil" organization. Throughout his life he participated in some terrible things, and spent over 30 years behind the walls.

But God had grace and mercy on this "evil" man....just as He had upon me (another "evil" man). Gracias a Dios!

Speaking of which, Donald Garcia (with the help of a Christian writer)just published his own book, entitled "Big D".

While the book doesn't name names, and doesn't have nearly the same "teeth" that Mundo's book does, I think it does a decent job at introducing Donald Garcia (and his work in the SF gang community) to the public at large.

Of course, as I mentioned, the book doesn't get into detail about any of Big D's alleged crimes. The stated reason is that he doesn't want to "glorify el diablo".

Well....I can understand that.

By the way, for those who might be interested, next month (March 5th) at 'Church of the Redeemer' in Baldwin Park (at 7PM), Kilroy (another former carnal) from White Fence is gonna be speaking...and sharing his testimony.

For those interested, you're more than welcome.

Anyway, enough for the church plug. I don't want any of Wally's non-Christian patrons to OD on Jesus or anything! (-;

With respect,

Norwalquero

I am providing you with yet another award winning investigative photo-journalist report on the adventures of Don. Q.

Make sure to view all the links which have photos of the REAL adventures of Don. Q. The following conversation between Don Q. and his Jefita was recorded this weekend.

The Jefita said ….. Don Q. when are you going to rake the leaves from the lawn?

Don Q. said …. I can’t rake the leaves using that insidious instrument of manipulation. The wood handle of the rake is made from wood cultivated from the rain forests of South America. The owners of the logging industries are fascist, racist, xenophobic White Anglo Saxon Americans trying to destroy the habitat and very existence of indigenous native Indians of the rain forest regions. They did this in the United States using the Manifest Destiny and now they are spreading their evil ways to South America. The wood handles used to be made by high paid latino union workers here in Los Angeles are but now these latinos have been forced to join gangs, deal drugs, and kill innocent victims because they can’t make the wood handle of the insidious rake. So how do you expect me to take part in yet another conspiracy of the elitist, fascist, racist white Americans against the latinos of Los Angeles? I have been a victim of them my whole life and I will not let this continue.

And furthermore the murderous, elitist, racist, xenophobic, white Anglo power hungry Americans are using the rakes to further oppress the poor Mexican immigrant landscapers as well. The immigrant workers have suffered many injuries due to the poor quality of the wood handle made by non-union impoverished and exploited South American factory workers. So I will never rake the leaves using that insidious instrument of manipulation - the rake.

The Jefita said ….. Don Q. I bought a new rake with a fiber-glass handle.

Don Q. said ……….Maybe I will rake the leaves after I have another Budweiser.
Don Q. thoughts ….I wonder how the fiberglass rake handle is being used to further exploit me?
Don Q. actions……………

Wally cited numerous omitions by the LA Slimes and you still go pouting like a typical liberal biziatch. Leave politics out of it, Wally's piece was great. Quit your snivling!!!

I could have sworn that I saw a documentary where they stated his placa was "Cowboy". I'm sure Wally knows the real deal.

They are'nt really much of a threat, other than harrassing landlord's and intimidating little boy's ang girl's,these dude's are basically a disorganised bunch of wanna be cholo's!they have many punk's “
And blah…. blah…..blah……….

I feel like the latest gang efforts by law enforcement have turned into a Monday night football with every body wanting to be the great Joe Montana. I have famila who lives in the area which Barrio Van Nuys controls and fucks up, believe me my familia especially my nephews are pretty damn happy to have these punks off their streets. So of course I am happy L.E. started the game in this neighborhood. I just wish they could keep these little punks locked up forever.

You know not everybody can be happy after the game, but my familia sure is happy. Maybe you need to pick another team, the Raiders are the worst team in the league. Anonymous you should also listen to Conchita’s advice and use a spell checker and grammar checker.

Mr. Feeling Noxious say,
"I have yet to see you write anything resembling an apology or admitting an error in your comments."
You will not receive apology from me! Did you did she did they? You like to be treated as an appendage of man, a terrible dereliction and unfaithful abandon of your senses. Get grip of your societal drama and stop badgering us like 7inch Chihuahua - bark bark bark. how endearing sissy pantaloons...this drink is shattering. You are grande stupido and have resolved it to my satisfaction! I know I am going to regret asking this but are you fond of dogs, Grand stupadzo? What kinda dog? Well no need to apologize, I was just pointing it out. You are a propounder of accredited dogma? Of course..................NOT! You are again stoopid. Your contemporized renderings, render..........nothing. Once again.........you are stoopadzo. On compliments, you receive none.

Hey (orale) El Montero, LOL Honestly, that was good brother. Yeah I was quite aware of Nina a while back ago, and again I really have to give you yours on that. I know you posted it for a good joke and for my benefit. But no, didn't and not going there nor to the cheapys.
LAPD-most corrupt cop: Kind of sounds like a couple of "Cell Warriors" huh? El Ratero; come on now, "nothing hard working about that"! It's called "Selfish", "Selfish",
"Selfish", it's all about you and don't care who you hurt or used. "NO DENIAL THERE". My gosh Mom and Grandma, please???

LAPD-most corrupt cop: May I interject? And I believe you won't mind and more than likely you'll agree!!! Stating "you convicts"... Maybe-just maybe a short stay inmate, but "convict" {NOPE}. Because you see; a "CONVICT" has "RESPECT" and don't talk or respond in such a matter. These 2 probably have a quote to each other and it may have went something like this, "My feet are getting tired". Which means what? You got it, there's no where else to run. Remember what LAPD MCC said, they're monitoring you and you all may want to "shut down", "delete" and "saddle up".

Well....I believe I just made my point. The statement: "It's always a set up"....you 2 con/oooops "lay overs" need to be more creative. And "Corrupt" I'm reading your mind, I know you're thinking that they wished they would of come up with the title first "IF I DID IT".
And Corrupt...I will shortly, but as of right now I'm well....I'm in another town and let's just say "35mm" and a 'lil busy for a minute, but I will be checking and getting back to ya ASAP! i.e. book'um Danny "O". The back burner will stay warm!!! OK? Listo!

Beautiful post by Norwalquero! And especially on a Sunday AM.
Norwalquero puts it out there without fear, and doesn't lose his humanity with any "too preachy fire and brimstone bs".
Hoping to not sound to "preachy" myself", I would hope we all can pull together and come up with a people oriented plan (and not based on money or power) to stop the madness and death that is affecting our society.
Maybe vato's like Kilroy and Conejo, and Dano, could get some more major "TV and Press" time cause theres nothing as powerful and convincing as a soul thats been redeemed, a life that's been turned inside out, returning from the depths of madness and evil to work for the salvation (religious or secular!)and good of humanity!

"Wally cited numerous omitions by the LA Slimes and you still go pouting like a typical liberal biziatch. Leave politics out of it, Wally's piece was great. Quit your snivling!!! "

The omits Wally sited were stories that the L.A. Times' readership would not be interested in. Not too many people care if "lil" so and so from Varrio wherever is calling shots in whatever jail. Most of the Times readers would view such insertions as a waste of print that could have better focused on what is causing gang violence altogether. Now, if Wally wants to refute the Times' overall position on that, it's fair game. And, he has. Albeit, Wally just seems to aim his bow and arrow at the liberals in city council as the Times' tends to, usually, blame the more conservative members of local government. As much as I'd like to think that Wally is independent when it comes to his punditry of local politics, from gathering up most of his opinions it's clear to me that he's merely chosen a side of the battle line, the opposite of the L.A. Times.

And, when you say, 'leave politics out of it', are you talking to me, or Wally? Read back, Wally has been on a political soap box, at least regarding L.A. and State politics, for the better part the last couple of months.

Are we taking our A.D.D. meds?

Ana Lizarraga was actually in the film "American Me". She had a small part as the mother of the woman that Santana (Olmos) was interested in. On the DVD of "American Me" that I have, there is a documentary on there about the people of Hazard, and the making of the film, and Ana Lizarraga is featured on it.

I rented that DVD about a year back for that very reason, Big Chino.

That documentary is more interesting than the movie itself. Lizzaraga's part in the documentary is eerie, considering what happened to her soon after. Pretty sad.

Ex-Jail cop charged for sex

Kentucky - A fired Floyd County Jail officer was charged today with having sex with an inmate, stealing televisions from the jail and plotting to steal money from its commissary.

Mark Elliss, a 35-year-old Elizabeth resident, was released on bond after he appeared in Floyd Circuit Court for an initial hearing.

Elliss is charged with sexual misconduct with an inmate, theft and conspiracy to commit theft, all Class D felonies. He was fired a few days after jail officials began an investigation last month.

According to an Indiana State Police affidavit filed with the charges, the former officer had sex with a female inmate in the commissary office last December and plotted in January with a different inmate to steal and share $5,000 by creating a fraudulent credit to the inmates commissary account.
