A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE LA MEDIA.
Since I already had something in mind about this issue, I'll start off with a comment from one of our many anon. commenters. I wish you guys would invent some interesting handles so I can keep you straight in my head, but whatever.

"To Wally,You used to tell us how the L.A. times did not cover gang news or racial motivated shootings but lately it seems they are giving a lot of coverage to all these topics. I’m not sure if it is because Mayor V., Chief Bratton, and Rocky D. are all trying to make gangs high priority and profile."

The commenter goes on to link the latest Times pieces on crime and gangs. Obviously, it's not just me that's noticing an increase in crime and gang coverage. And it's not just the Times. It's all the media in LA. I still stand by what I said back when this blog started. There was precious little coverage of the subject. There were stories (like the racial killings, the Eme's vertical integration initiatives, neighborhood expansions and various beefs) that were totally below the radar. This was one of the reasons I started blogging. It was to publicize stories that were being ignored.

When the city was looking for a new police chief, Rick Caruso said that addressing the issue of gangs and crime should be the new cheif's first priority. Dead silence. When Chief Bratton was hired, he said in one of his early public announcements that his first priority was addressing the same issue. Some of our local papers derisively started calling him Bill "War on Gangs" Bratton. As if trying to reduce the body count was something bad.

Now those same papers are writing stories about the Mexican Mafia being the 400-lb. Gorilla in the room, greenlight lists, taxation, regulation, shot-callers and, of course, ethnic cleansing. Big turnaround in attitude.

What happened?

Several things, the most prominent being the Federal hate crime indictment of Bird, Lucky, Sneaky and Dreamer from Avenues 43. Regular readers will recall that prior to that indictment, this blog was the only source of information about the Wilson, Bowser and Prudhomme murders. And it was the only source on similar events in Pomona, the SF Valley, Compton, Watts, Long Beach etc. When I approached some of the local papers about these homicides, I was given a less than enthusiastic reception. They basically showed me the door. That's a long story that will eventually be told.

It's easy to ignore one guy. It's impossible to ignore a Federal indictment. The media was frankly overwhelmed by events. When a release from the US Attorney's Press Office hits an editor's desk, you can't pretend you don't know. And you suddenly have to start caring.

Honest to God true story. I was sitting with a Northeast Homicide cop one day soon after the Avenues indictment came out. This cop knew I'd been trying to sell the thing to the media for years. It was somebody from a local free paper wanting to know about the Avenues case. He chatted with the person for a few minutes and when he hung up he looked at me and said, "Where they f*** have they been for the last three years?" Good question and rich irony. I'd been in the caller's office a month earlier in a futile and what proved to be my last ditch effort to get that paper to run my piece.

The truth is, I wasn't alone in banging on doors and rattling media cages. The families of murder victims were doing the same and getting the same "Not interested" response. Tony Prudhomme's mother got herself knocked silly having various media doors slammed in her face.

Over the next week, this cop's phone started ringing and wouldn't stop. The LA Times, Newsweek, CNN, Fox News, CBS, BBC, the local free papers (natch), and various freelancers all wanted in on the Avenues case. Then in the last week of the Federal trial, a Hispanic football player was shot and killed defending his black teammate on Avenue 40.

By then of course, after the world learned that "Avenue 43 Kills for Thrills," the media had given itself permission to go ahead and write about the thing that could not be named. In rapid sequence we had the Connie Rice report, the spike in gang crimes, four Hispanics executed Sadr City style on Harvard by black shooters with AKs, Kaytlin Avila wantonly shot in the chest by a guy who went out of his way to come back and kill her, the cop conference with LE from south, way south and way, way south of the border and then there was Cheryl Green. And after that we got Najee Ali with the phony truce, Bob Mueller, a Task Force, Feinstein asking for $1 Billion for gang suppression/intervention, Rocky sort of wanting and not wanting a gang Czar, the Drew Street dope house slamdown, Shadow Cambero from 43 making it to the Ten Most Wanted list, Garcia extradited back to the US, LA Bridges under scrutiny, Weasel getting shot, Tony V. lobbying the AG for money and bodies and now the Guv and Rudy G. meeting to get something done. That's not the exact order, but you get the picture. This confluence of events resulted in what the commenter has accurately assessed as increased coverage of the subject. "Holy cow, Batman. We got a real problem."

Is all this coverage a good thing or hysteria? I say it's about time.

To Wally,

I guess that Pan Blanco aka White Bread posted the story about more gang news. Because that vato always posts lots of links when he puts something here.

White bread you know him, Don Culo’s and Gavo Juto’s new gay friend posted this link about that vato Mario Corona from Communities In Schools organization. The funny shit is that vato Mario Corona was on the web-site of Southern California Catholic Weekly as the poster boy “cholo to church”. I wonder how long the church will keep his story posted. It looks like a new story about Mario Corona, the date is new.

I feel sorry for Blinky Rodriguez of CIS cuz Blinky has been working very hard get kids out of la vida loca. I am praying to GOD right now that the juras do not find my 8-ball when I am driving. Shit I have been trying to do it legit for many years, but it is damn hard to teach an old perro new tricks. It does not surprise me that a homie like spider slipped up. Shit we all slip up Que no.

Well Damn I just watched a Brand new episode of msnbc, and it was on the southsiders in the ranch in LA, and what a tremendous effort and great results they got from segrating the chicanos from the blacks, they had inmates on there speaking on how the mayates are loud, dirty and outspoken. All information that has been covered here from the get! LA media has no clue if they do, they sure have a fucked up way of showing it. puro pedo. im out.

Wally, there's a reason why we come to this blog, cause you get the info out there before the mainstream media. Keep it coming and thanks for doing it.

Hopefully this blog will get back to more of what Wally is bringing to us from the streets as opposed to the current who's a better citizen we have to go on about with our "law abiding" right winger friends who have taken over the blog.

Not to offend Wally, but Half Breed can you give me some examples of the info Wally is bringing to us from the "streets". Lately I mostly see references to news stories from other sources and then opinions about that story. I would like to also get that inside “street” news info, maybe I have been napping or something. I have been reading here for about nine months and I have yet to get any inside scoop on a news story.

I would like to know how many arrests have been made of 204th gang members that have not been already covered in the local news.

Or maybe the whole point of this latest post by Wally was to tell us how this gang news was not covered back when he started this blog.

Dear Chismes de la Calle,
Cut me some slack will ya? I'm only one guy and I'm doing this for free. If the information I provide isn't detailed enough or of sufficient interest, I'll be happy to give you a 100% refund on what I charge you for it. But if you must, here's one for you to file away for future reference. An alleged shooter currently under investigation for a notorious and well publicized homicide has a brother who's a cop and a sister who's a lawyer. I know that's vague but at these prices, that's all I can afford to give you. You'll read more about it in the other media eventually. But remember you heard it here first. Street enough for you, dude? And just for future reference, think of this blog as a splendid iceberg shining in the sun. Appreciate it for what it is but remember you're only seeing the top 10 percent.

Gang violence in the SF Valley has been going up for years especially after the Rampart and Crash scandals. I still remember when the LAPD Crash unit quit doing police work in the Valley. I am sure gang activity has increased since then.

Valley killings up 80%
By Jason Kandel
Staff Writer

A two-year surge in serious crime in Los Angeles has sent homicides in the San Fernando Valley soaring by 80 percent in the first five months of this year compared with 2000, figures released Friday show.

Police recorded 54 killings in the Valley through Friday, compared with 36 through May 2001 and 30 during the first five months of 2000.

Pacoima gang members are fighting a gang known as the Vineland Boys based in North Hollywood. The two gangs have been crossing a dividing line at Saticoy Street and entering into enemy territory for more than a year, police said.

Police theorize that the current feud may be retaliation from shootings last year and an ongoing drug war involving the Mexican Mafia.

"We're hearing Vineland Boys have liaisoned with La Eme," said Lt. Gary Nanson, who heads the Valley Bureau's Special Enforcement Unit. "Word is that Eme have chartered Vineland to go and hit those who are not paying taxes. Vineland Boys are heavily financed through narcotics."

I can give you one example.I've been reading this blog for about 2-3 years now.
I live in Norther Calif.I have done a little bit of time locally like Juvi, ranch, County Jail, you know small time.A couple of years ago I started reading some talk of the PEN1's.I had never heard of these guy's.Sure up here we have SKINS and in County they have the WOODS and I've heard of the Nazi Lowriders. So I started looking up the PEN1's and started paying more attention to the blog when they were mentioned just to find out a little bit more about them.
Needless to say , I'm watching the News yesterday and they are talking about how the PEN1's are the new muscle for the AB and what not. Here I was thinking to myself " Damn, I was reading that stuff on In The Hat 2 years ago.
Maybe you are more aware of this stuff than I am , and being up North I obviously don't know what's going on down there, but this is an example of how Wally's blog has kept me informed ( Years in advance ) on what is going on in other places.
Not to mention the whole Brown Vs. Black drama that has been going on down South and in the System was mentioned here way before the News started talking about it.

The web has plenty of web-sites which cover the history of gangs in LA. White fence was one of the first Mexican gangs in east LA. Also look up zoot suit to get more history information.

White fence stared out as a group of men which would walk Mexican kids to school and provide safe passage for their kids to school. The Mexican kids were harassed by whites and other recent immigrants in East L.A. Now White Fence are the intimidators and harassers of the area, how times have changed.

The name White Fence was so clever back in the 1930s’, I have visions of little kids playing safely behind a white picket fence.

Thanks for the nod, yes I'm an old veterano alright, expert quien sabe, and back as far as I have ever heard came directly from a real old veterano I worked roofing with as a kid 40 years ago, at that time he was over 70 years old and still worked like a mule.
This old Pachuco was named Manuel Dominguez, and he looked the part 100%. He was about 5'6", skinny, dark complection with jet black, full head of hair and sported one of those old time pencil thin bigotes. He used to wear his ropa in the old Pachuco style including a wide brimmed fedora hat like Cab Calloway the original zoot suiter.

Manuel was a native of Los Angeles and a OG vato loco from Temple St. varrio in the old Bunker Hill neighborhood.
Manuel had never lost his coraje and strutted around todo chingon even as an old man.
Interesting history he told me then.
He was busted and did time as a kid in Preston School of Industry and as I recall he said it was 1911, and told of the mexicans then getting the beatings by the CO's at the infamous "whipping post"
He also did time for various offenses including a 5 year stretch in San Quentin for holding. (3 or 4 joints of mota).
Thats as far back as I have ever heard. Old LA neighborhoods include Temple St., Clantone, Jugtown, Alpine St., Mateo St., Macy St., Colonia Watts, Clover, Hazard, Happy Valley/Rose Hills Dogtown, Flats.
This was around downtown LA but there were other old varrios in the outlining areas of the SFV, SGV, among others.

Mexican Cartels have infiltrated the government of a city in Los Angeles county about the size of a football field? Good for them. The Mexicans there, who are the original Californians, will probably be safer with the cartel running the city than they would with whites running it.

Oh, how did the cartels pull this off? My guess is that they took a lead from Halliburton and George W. Bush's 2000 Presidential campaign. Is there a better textbook?

Just wondering. If poverty and lack of social programs is the reason for these gangs, how come after some of them have made more money than most of us will ever see in a lifetime they continue in the gang?

It would seem to me they could move out to the burbs, join a country club, and do whatever they wanted.

Tell me, did Suge Knight have to keep hanging out with gangsters due to poverty?

Hey Tex Mex, maybe you should stick to the story of the Alamo.

I happen to be very familiar with the "WHite Fence" varrio, my grandmother, and other family lived there for many years on 6th between Euclid St. and Lorena St down in the hole.
Those were people that were there from the get go and the history is actually that the area was an early land and housing development in Boyle Hts ,and the area was designated by a white fence that surrounded the development. When the Chicanos moved in it was called "White Fence"
The Boyle Hts area had other early LA developments like "City Terrace" and around Brooklyn Ave. that was inhabited by Russians and Jews mainly relocating from the eastern US.
Thats why many of the streets are named after cities and places in the east such as Brooklyn Ave., Mott St., St. Louis, Chicago, Wabash St.,
One of my family members from the White Fence neighborhood went to school at Hollenbeck Jr. High with a famous alumni "Mickey Cohen" the gangster, and another cousin was "Little Bobby" Alcaraz from the White Fence Gang who was famous for starting a major riot at Preston and another in Levenworth against he Mayates when he was at the very least an associate of the Carnals.
My Abuela lived in a small house behind the famous "Garcia" family who produced 3 Catholic Nuns, a Christian Brother, and Monsignor Garcia who is well known in LA's Mexican community.
Typical Mexican AMerican neighborhood, good and bad.

Interesting development but not really surprising, they don't want to chest up against their own raza like the Norteno's do with the African Americans.

Like TJ Jailer and others have warned about for a long time. The growth of the Carnals and thier socio's is continuing and as long as the blinders are on the so called Penal experts, and nothing is done on the street level with the Plebe it's going to be a long hot summer.

PS: WHen the Nortenos give the new guys there mandatory Prostrate exam I heard they fail if more than three fingers can be inserted in a "finger wave".

Pacas, nice to have you back. Despensa about our old feud. I was new to blogging and came out in a stupid and disrespectful way. Peace.

Hey Tex-Mex I checked out your sites, and damn that vato Al Valdez needs to read up on his Chicano history. Is he really RAZA? The vato presents a good WHITE view of Chicano history, pretty much the same shit that every high school kid has in their history books. This vato never mentions Tiburcio Vasquez and his gang of Desperados. Nor does he mention the infamous Joaquin Murietta and his gang that included in it's ranks that other infamous bandido "Three-Fingered Jack". These vatos and their gangs were active in the mid to late 1800s.

To anyone truly intrested in real Chicano history you have to read Rodolfo Acuna. I am sure that many will agree that he is by far the best Chicano Studies professor of all time. His book OCCUPIED AMERICA is legend. All the editions are great but the later ones are toned down a bit. The first two editions are collectors items. I would also recommend ANYTHING BUT MEXICAN, this book really looks into all aspects of LA. Great book from a great man.

Come on my northern homie take it easy. I'm not net banging, I thought that I was giving you a good piece of info. I didn't know that we rolled together so it was news for me. If you don't want to do me that little favor it's okay. You can still kick it. By the way there isn't any veteranos in my barrio, we have only been around since the late 80s. I don't think that being in your 30's is old.

Put your drug chart down, Barney.

Is the gas that we use in America NOT funding terrorism? Are the entities that the gas profits in America going to more or less dangerous than the drug dealers that have taken over Cudahy?

The entire point I've made with those 3 posts, which was over a week ago, and that you have no answer for other than the typical headquarters cheap shots, was that the administration running America right now is far more dangerous, and has already put us in situations far more grave, than any situation a bunch of 3rd world drug dealers could put us in by taking control of a town so small that many people in the L.A. region don't even know where it is without a map, including, probably, yourself, considering the likelihood of you not being able to even read a map.

Considering your debating skills, which, thus far, don't even exist, I'm wondering if you even know the 4 cardinal directions. Well, as long as you can find your way to the SouthEast station, I guess.

Back to the poverty thing...you ever notice how you can only come up with a handful of examples to support the case that poverty has nothing to do with gang violence?

Suge Knight....wow.

Okay....there's one!

Now, what about the hundreds of thousands of poor kids who make up for the other 99.9% of gang members?

WALLY,
Don't worry about no one listening to you, I have been telling people for the last 10 to 15 years that these little cities in SouthEast LA were the focus point and starting point of your heavy hitter drug organizations and enterprises back in the mid-1970s to today. I used the word "enterprises", because they are all small connected business fronts for EME and more specifically for the Mexican Cartel's drug distribution rings. The people in these areas were all multi-generational relatives of a past linage of the current Mexican cartel shot callers. You would be surprise to know how many people live or have lived in these small cities of Southeast Los Angeles and allowed to flourish by the local governments and untouched by your local PD. Not until one day an O.G. LE vet listened to what I had to say, he than said the magic words, "let me look into it" and BANG!!!!!
I can give you a long laundry list of dirty people and places in Sur Este, pero that's for some other vato to figure it out. If i am not asked, I dont say nada. SouthEast is like Tijuana, everyone knows who, what, where, but no ones says nada.
Aside from my wife, now I have more than one person listening to me. :) So dont feel bad.

From the guy who apologized for calling DQ a sweet potato.

Heres some history on a couple San Gabriel Valley barrios that I am familiar with.....

Mis Abuelitos immigrated here from Mexico in the early 1920’s first they took up residence in what is now La Puente, then later moved to El Monte in what is presently Medina court (Hayes)Where my jefita was born in 1928. Hicks camp is a little bit older then Hayes, but the actual street Medina court was estabished in 1907, to which I've seen documents. Back then the “camps” were actually ranchos that adopted the names of the ranch owners. e.g. “de donde eres? El rancho de Hayes or el rancho de Hicks”. Many familys from Hicks and Hayes were related through marriges, my jefita was from Hayes and my jefe was from Hicks although he was born in Mexico.

John Hayes: A successful farmer, teacher and walnut grower, who pioneered with the early settlers of El Monte, and vicinity, was John Hayes. Born in Ireland in 1836, Mr. Hayes came to America and California in 1868 from Australia, where for a number of years, he had served the British government as a surveyor. For a number of years, immediately following his arrival in California, Mr. Hayes was likewise employed by the Southern Pacific Railway as a surveyor.
In 1878 he came to El Monte and engaged in teaching – his services being used in the El Monte, Bogdale (now Temple), and Lower Azusa Schools. In the year of his arrival in El Monte Mr. Hayes was married to Susan Hubbert, who came to California from Texas about the year 1868. Six boys were born to this union, of whom five are now living (1936), namely: W.T. of New York city, B.H. and Eugene, of Madera, California, and Frank and E.A. of El Monte.Mr. Hayes purchased a ranch of 300 acres north and east of El Monte, and for a number of years, engaged in raising grain and hogs. He later was one of the first to see the possibilities of what was later to be one of this district’s major industries – walnut raising.
His sons, Frank and E.A. now own the original ranch fo their father and have operated it since his death, which occurred in 1910. Mrs. Hayes died in 1917. Worth of note is the historical fact that John Hayes, together with Scott Killian, another large ranch owner of that time, purchased and installed the first irrigating pumping plant, in the El Monte district, which marked the beginning of irrigation by pumping, and led to further development in agriculture in this territory.Frank Hayes, one of the sons, is and for several years has been, manager of the El Monte Walnut Growers’ Association.

My abuelito and a few other veteranos from Medina court actually worked for Mr. Frank Hayes on his rancho. It was told to me by an old timer that he was a miserly old man and did not treat our people fair.

El Monte in the 1920's was an agricultural area known for its crops of walnuts, strawberries and tomatoes. Most of these crops were planted and harvested by migrant workers. The city's economy was also made up of canneries and small businesses located along Valley Boulevard, in addition to the agricultural industry.
The migrant workers used by the farmers immigrated to the United States from Mexico following the Mexican Revolution of 1910. The immigrants coming to El Monte settled in two camps known as Wiggins and Hicks Camp. In the late 1920's and early 1930's, a new colony started. It was first called Hayes after the man who owned the land but later it became known as Medina Court. It is here where El Calvario is presently located. The camps where the Mexicans lived had inadequate housing, no electricit and unsanitary conditions. It was these conditions which brought forth the visitation of some members of the Divine Savior Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, who made weekly visits to Hicks Camp. This effort to help the workers in Hicks Camp began in 1927 but became organized in 1929 under the name of the Mexican-American Board.By 1942 the Mexican-American Board had a deep concern for the spiritual and social conditions of all the Mexican residents of the city of El Monte. Prompted by this vital interest in their living conditions, a survey was conducted. And it was not until this survey that it became apparent that a social approach with a strong Christian motivation was necessary to bring about social changes in a community lacking so much. A more systematic approach was planned. In 1949 a new Board of Directors was constituted and a budget of $4,845.00 was approved to develop a social work program in the area.
A Pastor-Director, Mr. Trujillo, was then hired and an old two story building in Medina Court was acquired. The name "Mexican American Board" was dropped and a new name, El Calvario Community Center, was adopted. In September 1949, a group worker, Dorothy King, was hired to help augment the program. Although the main building for the Center was located in Medina Court, Hicks Camp was served on an outstation basis until the land was sold and developed into single family homes.
Andy Torres followed Mr. Trujillo as Director and Almaron Wilder was hired when Mr. Torres resigned. It was during Mr. Wilder's term as Director that the Synod of Southern California constructed the building in Medina Court where El Calvario is presently located. A playing field in back of the building was acquired by the Board of Directors in 1960.
In 1958, the Board engaged Ignacio Aquilar as Director and he played a vital role in the development and direction of the Center until his resignation in October 1977. Sachi Asahina joined the staff in 1965 as ProgramDirector and was appointed Acting Director in 1977. Sachi also played an important part in shaping the programs at the Center, and it was under her direction that a nursery school was started. Since its inception, the nursery school has consistently been one of the most successful programs at El Calvario.
In 1970, El Calvario incorporated as a non-profit agency. In 1971, the contribution of $15,000.00 year by the Synod of Southern California was drastically curtailed and the following year was withdrawn. After that, El Calvario funded itself through the United Way, private contributions and gifts of various organizations and individual churches, although the building continued to be owned by the Synod of Southern California.
In 1978, Arturo Guevara, our present Executive Director, was hired by the Board of Directors. 1978 also marked the refunding of El Calvario by the Synod of Southern California, although to a lesser degree than formerly. By mid-1981, the staff had grown to include three full-time employees and four part-time workers, making a greatly expanded program possible. However, as throughout its history, the motivation has continued to be a Christian concern for the health and welfare of the constituency El Calvario serves.

El Calvario Community Center still stands today at its present location on Montecito Drive, a block south of Medina Court. The center has seen better days. Today there is still a nursery school a boxing program, and few other programs for at risk youths. As far as all the original families from the early days, Ramirez’s, Saenz, Beltrans, Guardados, Granados, Flores, well most are gone. A lot of new people from Mexico live in the area but it is know longer a Barrio like it used to be when everyone knew one another. Although there are still active homies, most are torcido, and do to strong presence of the EMPD, you can no longer hang out in front of the store drinking pisto and watching the jente pass by as was done 24/7 just a few years ago. The older folks can and do hang out at the LA HISTORIA SOCIETY MUSEUM, over on Tyler & Bodger in El Monte, if you ever want to learn about the 5 El Monte Barrios (camps) HICKS, HAYES, LAS FLORES, LA MISSION, WIGGINS CAMP, AND CANTA RANAS, come by and check it out.

Not a ranting superflous political commentary expousing your hatred for America because you hate the President. Just give us an example.

I guess at least I should give you credit for admitting you are obsessed.
As for me being a stupid fucker...
Well obsessed one, this stupid fucker is intelligent enough to not argue about something that I know I have an obsession about. One who is obsessed cannot present a logical argument due to their emotional state concerning the subject. They make themselves look foolish to those who are not obsessed, because the non-obsessed can use logical reasoning and maintain a reasonable perspective on the subject, while the obsessed
continues to argue while in a completely emotional state.
Your statements regarding our country being better off if it was run by the drug cartels says it all.
Yeah right. Tijuana and Juarez are the envy of every modern progressive city in North America.
Like I said before, you are AMAZING.
P.S. Your quick wit, sarcasm, and extensive education are apparent in your retorts to my posts, but they cannot hide your obsession.
It's too bad that a man with your intelligence and education continually reveals his human frailty and looks silly to the rest of us.

Do they have to or choose to?

Your lack of expertise on this subject is apparent.
Today, more than ever, gang banging is cool in the eyes of many middle class adolescents.
Kids but their CD's (that's why they are millionaires) want to dress like them,( go to a high school in the burbs and check out all the kids saggin) and emulate their behavior ( go to the burbs and listen to the kids call each other "dog" and "G").
Get it now? It's cool. So they keep doing it.

Latinos (Mexicanos) land 2 in 3 U.S. construction jobs
WASHINGTON, March 7 (UPI) -- Latinos make up 13.6 percent of the U.S. employment population, but accounted for 36.7 percent of the 2006 U.S. employment growth, a study showed Wednesday.

Most of the jobs Hispanic workers landed were in the construction industry, the Pew Hispanic Center said.

In fact, two out of every three new U.S. constriction jobs went to Hispanic workers, the center said.

Hispanic employment increased by almost 1 million from 2005 to 2006, with foreign-born Latinos who arrived since 2000 responsible for about 24 percent of the total U.S. employment increase.

Undocumented immigrants accounted for about two-thirds of the increase in recently arrived Hispanic workers, the center estimated.

The center derived its estimates from Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau data, it said.

You are right about most poor kids not joining gangs. But then again you don't have to be in a gang to get locked up. America has the largest prison population in the world. "SV VBS is still free while key VBS vatos are locked down. The news said anyone who was anyone was arrested but he's still free...hmmmnn"

The news said what the cops wanted them to say. Reporters were handed their article in a press conference and that's what they put in their papers. That's why the story was exactly the same in every newspaper. Any reporter that would have taken the time and done their job would've found out some intresting things.

Right off the bat they would have found out that not all of the people in that indictment were from Vineland. They would have also found out that their is no leader or any type of leadership stucture in the barrio. The closest that we came to having a leader ended years ago when my homie passed away. So those RICO charges should not have applied.

Another thing that stood out was the fact that LE only took in vatos with some kind of drug offense in their record. Many good homies that don't have drug offenses are still walking the calles.

But the biggest story for them would have been how the trials were conducted. The people indicted were represented by about 50 lawyers, who made over 200 motions and all were denied, while the prosecutors motions were all allowed. They were even allowed to present officer Campbell's testimony of the shootout that claimed officer Pavelkas and my homeboys lifes. That testimony had a very strong influence on the jury. But it should not have been allowed since none of the people in trial had anything to do with that shootout.

LE claims to have had a near 100% conviction rate on these indictments. And that's true to a certain degree. The fact is that upon seeing how the court had shot down motion after motion, and seeing how the burden of prove was some how shifted to the defense. Most homeboys decided to take deals of a few years instead of risking life sentences. Waiting for an appeal to go through would have taken more years than what most homies got. The homies that took it all the way really had no choice.

There was one guy that really got fucked. He was a paisa that took care of a couple of my homeboys gallos. Well the vato was recorded by the feds. talking to the homies a few times. He called them to make them aware that their gallos were short on food and vitamins. And even though the defense showed that at the time and place of this guys arrest he had in his backyard about 100 gallos. The feds. were still able to convince the jury that that was code talk for drugs. I think he got 25 to life. That paisa was considered some kind of captain in their structural theory on the barrio. Go figure.

As for myself, I never claimed to be anyone. However, I can tell you that I was there when the my barrio started. And that I am in good standing with my homeboys and others. I'll leave it at that.

I'll quote George Lopez:
"America is the greatest country on earth".
What's funny is how you call me a neo-con because I simply point out how ridiculous it is for SNS to make the statement that this country would be better off if the drug cartels were in charge.
That makes me a neo-con?
Don't like what a person has to say., so you brand him with a name.
Very poor debate tactic. Why don't you let somebody who has deductive reasoning get SNS's back. When you
quickly pull out the "neo-con" card to rebutt my argument, it shows your lack of ability to intelligently debate the subject.
Corrupt as compared to what other country? You talk about how my comparison's are not applicable (In your opinion). I notice how you nor SNS named a country that the poor are better off in. So, if the U.S.A. is as good as it gets, yet you still continue to complain about it, that makes you unrealistic in your argument.
But then again, based on your argument, I guess you consider George Lopez a facist and neo-con. I simply stated what he did on stage at the end of his last HBO special, and you call me a neo-con.
Think before you speak young man.

America is once again struggling to atone for slavery and its aftermath.

In a nation with an unquenchable need to analyze its racial past, there is now a fresh flow of contrition from public officials for the many wrongs of U.S. history.

Inspired by a resolution apologizing for slavery that Virginia legislators passed last month, black lawmakers in Georgia said Thursday they plan to introduce a similar measure there. Maryland and Missouri also are discussing an apology. And so far, a white Memphis congressman has gathered 36 co-sponsors for a bill that, if passed, would bring an apology to the federal level.

SV VBS talking about the VBS homies said…….
“LE claims to have had a near 100% conviction rate on these indictments. The homies that took it all the way really had no choice.”

Your homies made several choices
1) a choice to be dealing drugs
2) a choice of killing young girl (Martha Puebla) who might be witness
3) a choice to kill a cop and then put a green-light on other cops.

So let me get my crying towel out for your homies; boo, hoo, hoo, boo, hoo, hoo, OK I am done crying now. Your poor innocent cholo homies are in jail for a long time. Do you have their names and prison mailing address, I want to send all your homies a sympathy card.

Let us all here on Wally’s blog be their new Pen Pals. I’m sure Don Culo and SNS would love to be their newest pen-pals, Don Culo and SNS really understand how all the cholos are victims of our fascist and corrupt government. I am sure they would love to put some money in their books to file and appeal of their convictions. Let us all really show some gangster love and respeto and not just talk and complain here. SNS and Don Culo what do you think of my idea? You two should lead the charge to free the VBS victims. Let me get my crying towel again, boo, hoo, hoo, boo, hoo, hoo.

Welcome to Wally’s world, where anybody who does NOT think that the U.S. government is the evil empire and all the cholos in jail are poor innocent victims of our corrupt government is labeled;

Fascist
Racist
Xenophobe
Gay (I think the ex-cons still remember their prison days)
Mexican Hater (also applies if you are a Mexican who does not embrace the cholo lifestyle)
Mexican Spokesman
Race Trader
Token Mexican
And many other stupid names

So jump on the train and hold tight because you are in for a wild ride. And it always confuses the old cholos when one more Mexican jumps on the train. Bienvenido a otro latino aquĆ en el mundo de los Cholos locos.

I agree, and believe me none of my homies expect, need, or want any sympathy. They'll take care of business and make more choices when they get out. By the way many will start to come out next year. I hope that your not disappointed.

****

Old timer I can't believe that you are still at it. I have stated that I made a mistake and read your post out of context. What else do you want me to say? Now you are the one that has taken my comments out of context. The part about neo-cons calling anyone that speaks out against this president "America haters" was directed at crazy right-wingers. It was a generalized comment that a person with the immense understanding and knowledge that you claim to profess should have understood.

The confusion that caused this whole spat comes from the fact that people don't get a handle and stick to it. One vato questioned my loyalty and I responded. It was obvious that he was a Repub. and that he still backs this president. I can respect a conservative and might even agree on one or two of their views. But for me, to still support this administration is to be a fascist neo-con. In my view people don't have to wrap themselves in the flag to be patriotic. I believe that it is more patriotic to question our leaders and to not give them free reign of the country.

As for the joto card, well if it doesn't bother you to call men "mijos" keep doing it. I was just bringing it to your attention cause it really does sound gay.

You got one thing right, we did take over "East Side Los" which was the original varrio behind Stevenson Jr High on the calles og Spence, Sabina, Lanfranco etc. East Side Los was now whwere near Walbash and never where. You also got the years fucked up too homie. We took over around 80/81.

Now to set the record straight from the mouth of a true Cerquero. We have always been and will remain in our original stomping grounds, which started was between Lorena/4th/Euclid/Whittier. This was and still remains the heart of the varrio. To be excact the orginal hangout was outside La Purrisima Church which is on Concord/Euclid. This was the foundation for the varrio period. The first name to identify the homie in the neighborhood was La Purissima Crowd. It then went to The Commandos/White Fence/The Fence. The Monsters started up in the same place not on no fucken Walbash ese. My familia has been here since 1942. Later on we exxpanded down the hill towards Soto and took over El Hoyo Soto's varrio. Now we go from Indiana to Boyle. We have always and still do have dedicated homeboys who lived outside the varrio. There was a few homeboys who were living in the Walbash area in the 60s/70 but that was not out roginal area. Just like we have homeboys living in Hollywood, Bell Gardens, Alhambra,Las Vegas,El Monte,Onterio,Palmdale etc. Thats just how it goes....EAST SIDE WHITE FENCE THE HOLE LOCOS,LOS SPIDERS,THEE MALOS,TINY LOC'S,ALLEY LOCOS,LOS CDKS,MONSTER TOWN, THE MIDGETS,LOS PWEES,THEE TERMITES,CRAZY CHERRIES,MONSTRO LOCOS,THE HILL,THE TINIES TILL THE WHEELS FALL OFF 1930'S STYLE

qvo homies at in the hat, now that the filtering is off its on,,, nah i think its lame when fools come on here to talk hella smack, especially on fools that just mosey in and post a legitamate comment, anyways about the cerco blanco theyre one of the main barrios in el paso texas, together with hacienda heights,, which is weird because hh was never that deep in LA to begin with, also white fence is around in guatemala believe it or not, 18st and mara are the biggest ones but white fence is around a little in guate, but as far as the oldest barrio in los, it came as shock to me to find out temple and clanton where some of the first hoods, i always thought eastlos was the og barrios, but when i thought about it los angeles was actually founded around downtown and the west side, and it is already known that eastlos at that time was russians and jews and armenians and what not, so where was the raza that had been here since the spanish days, in westlos, clanton, alpine street, i heard a crazy story that cinco y loma was the og LA hood, but i just dont know though, its interesting to find out how many barrios used to be around that disappeared though, like east side los, or hoyo soto, or i heard of one that used to be near to avenues called barbarians, and sacred reich, i heard that at one point in the early 80s alot of the og hoods were hitting hard times and starting to die out, and now almost 30 years later not only did they not die out but actually got stronger than ever, what someone should post is all the major hoods that got kliked up with other hoods, i know 18 alone must have like ten, or all the crews that joined hoods too, alright peeps thats all for now alrato,,,

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- President Bush on Friday denied charges that the United States under his leadership has ignored Latin America's poverty and problems. "That may be what people say but it's certainly not what the facts bear out," Bush said. "We care about our neighborhood a lot."
Bush's eighth trip to the region was widely viewed locally as a counter to efforts by the president's nemesis, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, to use his vast oil wealth to court allies. After Brazil, Bush goes to Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico.

I wont try to convince you but I will say that we should have concentrated on only one target. The raghead in the mountains of Afghanistan. Why haven't we caught him? Could it have something to do with the fact that we are stuck in the quagmire that is Iraq?

Most importantly what about the way that this guy has used fear to take away our constitutional rights. I really hope that you take a serious look at what this guy and his buddies have done to our country. Good luck.

Chale carnal, I told you that you were too much of a diehard to change. The problem is staring you in the face and you are still blind to it. Has history not showed you anything? You are aware that history has a tendency to repeat itself right? You should read about the British experience in Iraq at the fall of the Ottoman empire. You will see that our politicos are using pretty much the same play book. And that more than likely we will have the same results.

"This is the same liberal mentality that lost the war in Vietnam to the tune of thousands of innocent southern Vietnamese who otherwise would have been saved if not for your beloved "Hanoi" Jane and company."

Saved from what? The communist red scare that would for sure topple all of the democratic Asian countries in what was called the "Domino Effect". Or were they saved from further carpet bombing and poisoning of them and THEIR land with agent orange?

Look man I believe in freedom and democracy. And I also believe that any and all people have the right to determine their own countries future. The way I see it, no matter how much I disagree for our reasons for being there. I believe that our troops mission has been completed, and that we should bring them home. The Iraqis are the only ones that can decide what their future will be. Having our troops referee a civil war serves no purpose.

Maybe you don't mind being spied on by big brother or losing your right of Habeas Corpus. But to me those are basic rights that Americans have to protect and not allow our government to take away. To allow such a thing will only lead to an abuse of power.

The only "domino effect" in Asian countries these days is that of democracy and capitalism. We won't even get into Reagan and his toppling of communist Russia and the "Berlin Wall". These landmark world events would have never taken place with liberal "chicken littles" like you in power.

Also, may I ask why an enlightened individual like yourself still claims a stupid gang (VBS) that kills other human beings, mainly Mexicans, for no good apparent reason? Maybe you should put out the fire in your own back yard before you try to preach to Bush, don't be a hypocrite. Viva Bush!!!

"The only "domino effect" in Asian countries these days is that of democracy and capitalism."

I agree that most Asian countries are now firmly in the capitalist camp. But don't mistake capitalism for democracy. They aren't the same. The vast majority of these Asian countries are very far from being democracies. Many of them hold their citizens in a state of virtual slavery. Your party has allowed the same thing to happen in the Mariana Islands. Tom Delay knows these US territories very well.

I don't agree that Reagan had that much to do with the collapse of communism. I mean all that he had to do was to out spend the Soviets. The training and equipping of the ragheads in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets was the most logical thing to do. Nothing special, only part of the tit for tat game that the US had forced the Soviets into many years before Reagan was even on the scene. The Soviets just happened to go bankrupt on Reagans watch and he got the credit for it.

You ask me a very good question, one that is very hard for me to answer. But I'll try my best to explain in the quickest and easiest way. For all intends and purposes I'm just a regular guy. I don't use drugs, I don't even smoke. I'm not out there gangbanging or doing anything illegal. I work hard to support my family. But I have a past life that took me too far into the madness. And even though I have left it behind, my name has to remain in good standing just in case some unexpected thing were to ever happen. That's as simplest answer that I can give to a very complicated question.

Have you been around this site for awhile? If you have, you would have seen me say that I'm new to this computer blogging. I had never done it till I found this site. When I first posted, it was to correct the story that WALLY had posted on my barrios history. I will admit that in my first post I let my passions get away a little and I came out wrong, but what I have stated are the facts. Also in that post I signed off SV VBS so I have just kept doing it so that people know who I am.

You know this site has really captivated my attention. Aside from the constant tit for tat type of stuff that goes on here. There is always that attempt to understand this evil phenomenon. Everyone has an opinion, and to a certain degree everyone has a valid point. But our differences keep us from coming up with a good solution. All the while this madness keeps ruining young peoples lives.

LE doesn't trust ex-cons. Ex-cons don't trust LE. And nobody trusts the fuckin politicians. But we have to let bygones be bygones and work together on this problem. In my point of view CIS was doing a good job and should be a model for other similar programs. There just has to be more over site as to where it is the money truly ends up. There will always be people that will let their greed get over on them and abuse their positions. But that's human it's part of our internal flaws. The seven deadly sins of humanity will always haunt us.
