MUNDO BOOK FINALLY OUT
For those of you who don't dig all the way into the comments sections, here's something you're missing. The long-awaited book by Mundo Mendoza is finally available.

The name is, or should be, familiar to a lot of you. Mundo was among the first of the big dropouts. While he wasn't there at the very beginning of the Eme in 1957, he was real close. He came to know and operated with the top echelon of the brotherhood and not only knows where all the skeletons are buried, he was responsible for putting some of them there. If the CD is anything like the original I read, it doesn't pull punches or cops out on anything.

I've seen earlier, hard-copy versions of the book and I can't understand why he never found a publisher. If Monster Cody Scott got his book published, the reluctance to publish this superior memoir is a mystery. But thanks to the new media and the internet we no longer need publishers to act as the filters for information. The days of the gatekeepers are numbered.

For anyone interested in the subject, your library is not complete without a copy of this book. If you're law enforcement, a prosecutor, an educator, journalist, crime reporter, policy maker, researcher, an interested observer or somebody still in the mix and wondering why your world looks the way it does, this CD book is essential reading.

The book is being sold through this website.
http://www.convictsandcops.com/

If you click there now, however, there's no mention of it yet but it will be up on that site sometime this week.

In the meantime, you can send an email to this address and put in your order.

sarge4444@earthlink.net

And just in case this sounds like I'm shilling for this project, my financial interest in this is precisely zero. Unless somebody decides to throw me a freebie, I'm paying full retail for my copy.

I'd like to hear some feedback after you read it and digest that mountain of information contained on the CD.

My immediate family doesn't care, either. If I do crash, I hope its with a family member of yours.

They don't like you cause you're uncircumcised. Sorry lop... I don't have a family... my presence on earth is divine... but back to your dirty ass... when you get out your wrecked up bucket, I hope a bird flies over and shits on your face. :)

Aren't 99% of all Mexicans uncircumcized? No wonder no one likes us.

Anyways, back to the regularly scheduled EME talk.

{Hey wally or any of you who've worked with Mundo, how much money did he get for this book? Ya think its more than he ever made as a eme member?}

Good question. Wasn't sure if you really wanted an answer but when he was taken down, he owned multiple homes (in Rosemead and Pico Rivera), was moving kilos of heroin and cocaine on a weekly basis throughout California (San Francisco, Hayward, Fresno, Visalia, L.A. and Colton among the cities he had people in) and he and Joe Morgan had a solid relationship with Jesus "Chuy" Araujo (Mexican drug lord) for several years. We never had the luxury of peering into any bank accounts and his assets were maintained under family members' names.

(will he spend all his money on chiva?)

He was a non-user.

(will the eme forgive his transgression for a partial sum of the profits, say 30, 000?)

Even though I detect sarcasm, everybody knows that answer.

(will other vatos not want to be given the placaso mundo cause because of this guy?)

Actually, Mundo's former neighborhood (VNE) has a big black eye because of his turning AND Chuco Castro who is/was also a VNE gang member. EME's two biggest defections came by way of VNE so, I think they may not be recruiting too many more from that region.

(come on yo's, enquiring minds want to know!)

So there you have it, Enquiring Mind.

I DON'T SPEND ANY TIME ON THIS BLOG EXCEPT AT WORK, PROBABLY MAKING MORE MONEY THAN YOU AND YOUR JEFITO COMBINED.

Hey KMA,
you forgot Max Torvisco from VNE being a snitch as well. He wasn't as big as Mundo or Chuco but nevertheless brought down some carnales. Thanks for the response to my enquiring mind.

[Hey KMA,

No, I didn't forget, Working Man. I just didn't mention him. I also didn't mention Thomas Duran, Artie Duran, Desi Gonzales, Rufas Pena, Ronnie Salazar and Eddie "Sailor Boy" Gonzales. I think VNE has enough EME dropouts to start a clique of their own.

Most EME members are heroin addicts and a very small percentage of them actually abstained from "the dragon". Mundo Mendoza was one of them.

He was also very dangerous (he excelled in hand-to-hand combat) and apparently killed almost as many in the prison system as he did on the streets. He was very intelligent and this made him invaluable and almost indispensible to EME. Many EME members at first refused to believe he had turned and his story was unique.

These attributes made him just as valuable to us when he turned. He had no compunction about testifying once he got over the psychological hurdle of going from a bad guy to an informant.

At one hearing in the Joe Morgan murder-conspiracy case in the 1980's, he was was asked a question by the defense attorney about whether he feared for the life of his family.

Mundo looked over at Joe and answered, "We all have families. If something happens to a member of my family, my trigger finger isn't broken". I was in the court room and the tension was high.

His ability to recall minute details was a tremendous asset in several cases and helped in the convictions (either by his testimony or by his impending testimony) in approximately 20 separate cases.

Tijuana Jailer had more contact with him than I as he was part of the debriefing team in 1978 who interviewed him in L.A. County for 3 or 4 weeks straight!

KMA,

That must have been something to have been in the courtroom when "Mundo" made that comment toward "Joe Morgan".

This may be kind of presumptious, or even irrelevant to some of you; But does anyone know if a film is in the works based on this book?

I know one of the big beefs with American Me was the innacuracies regarding EME's history.

Anyow, it just amazes me that there aren't more films based on this.

TijuanaJailer said...

Greetings Still No ....

That entire trial was quite a security exercise. The courtroom that held the SLA trial of Bill and Emily Harris (bulletproof glass and all) was utilized for this trial. Joe Morgan, hitman Artie Guzman (a young King Kobras gang member who later joined La EME) and Helen Mrazek (one of EME's personal bailbonds people and wife of the victim) were the accused.

Mundo and Joe handled the trial (with the exception of that one potentially volatile confrontation) in a very businesslike manner and pretty much avoided making eye contact with each other. Remember, Joe and Mundo had been extremely close as carnales and in the deadly business they conducted.

The LE firepower was unbelievable for that trial with federal, state and local agencies working together like never before.

I don't think any movie is in the works (to my personal knowledge) as the book has just been launched as of last weekend. Maybe Wally knows??

I would think a mini-series would be needed to really capture this story. Mundo's book is like a mini-series all by itself but the characters need to be developed. He's no script writer but his account is vivid and the real deal. He wrote it all by himself (he started in 1979) and his last input was as recent as early September of 2005!

No editors or ghost writers assisted in his work. After Chapter 10 you can't stop reading. I even considered pulling out the old bullet proof vest at one point.

It's all there - names, monikers, dates, list of prison and street murders, his rap sheet and original photographs of all the major players both in the joint and outside.

Photos of EME funerals, baptisms, functions where they were together on the outside, prison group shots (San Quentin "Class of 1966", Folsom "Class of 1969", San Quentin "Class of 1971", etc.). No bullshit or overdramatization. Raw and real.

Ok, enough plugging I suppose. I'm too damn close to this stuff. You'll have your own opinion and input when you check it out for yourself. Be good, No Script, and good to hear from you again.

Peace ........

Man it's good to hear from you guys again(KMA,Still no Script, and especially Tijuanero) I'm looking forward to reading the Mundo Book, and again as an old veterano myself I'm often thinking of the past and how we (all Of us!) have been and are influenced by our history. I have been recently thinking about the 3 generations of Eme people that I am familiar with and have personally known, my fathers generation, my contemporaries, and the younger vatos who are now Eme shotcallers. It might be boring to some but I'm sure it would offer some insight as to where we are today. I'm putting it together and if anyones interested I'll blog it.

I would think another movie that would be better is along the lines of Zoot Suit.
Perhaps showing the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the beginnings of the Maravilla and White Fence gangs defended their turf from the Military mobs and how the Zoot Suit Riots and Sleepy Lagoon incident united the chicano community.

Does Septemeber 16th have any significance for Mundo as it pertains to the release of his book? I know its mexican independence day and I also know its a day celebrated in NF history for the hits on EME heirarchy they put down that day supossedly. Even though the hit on cheyenne didn't really happen that day, the NF celebrates that day as if it had.

Did mundo have any personal reasons for its release on the 16th. was he celebrating his independence from M ? Was he doing a hit on them (M) by exposing them thus repeating metaphorically what NF claims to have done on 16th? Or was he just celebrating mexican independence day and the book coming out that day is just a coioncidence? enquiring minds wnat to know.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cringed at Blood In, Blood Out. The first thing I noticed was how terrible the technical advisors for this flick were as opposed to American Me. Taylor Hackford had nothing on Edward Olmos and these movies were like day and night.

The movie idea for BI-BO was excellent, I thought. A dope fiend brother, another one who escaped the neighborhood and became a cop and the "token white boy" (smile). It seems that every barrio had it's Huero in those days. But the movie execution was horrrrrible !

Another movie ..... I don't think so. We get the idea. TJ mentioned something interesting .. a mini-series. We get to see developed characters and enjoy the real flavor (if done right) of the street life, politicking, family life, and all the connected and related stuff in an extended format as opposed to having it crammed in one movie.

Probably just a coincidence. The seminar was scheduled way in advance of the 16th and the people who coordinated this class did not even have Mundo in mind until AFTER they scheduled the seminar, I'm told.

I mean, it sounds good and all but I don't think Mundo planned it like that. Makes for interesting Blog Talk.

To: Internet Gangster (aka: "the anonymous cell soldier") Good opinion. Answer: because it's the 21st Century!

It's also called:
Supply and Demand. Some of us want it (Demand) and it's available (Supply).

There are also Choices we make: To buy or not to buy. If you want it, you "Buy" it; If you don't want it, you Don't buy.

From attending the LE seminar, I don't think he is thrilled about the killings (today) and as for "turning rat" well it all depends on your value system.

Every gangster has his day. If he's smart, he'll "do the right thing"; if he's not, he'll have to answer to his Maker.

Did Mundo become an informant after getting arrested for something that could have put him away for life, or did he just see the error of his ways?

TijuanaJailer said...

[Did Mundo become an informant after getting arrested for something that could have put him away for life, or did he just see the error of his ways?]

Mundo and "Sailor Boy" Gonzales were arrested on October 9, 1975, for the execution slayings of NF Daniel "Woodsey" Reyes and his brother Ronald Reyes.

When he had his "change of heart" (you need to read his book to see what exactly happened in his life) his carnales knew nothing about his intent to "pull away" from his cliqua. He was actually prepared to first complete his murder-conspiracy trial in Kern County.

Both murder charges were dismissed in early-1977 on a legal tech which befuddled the minds of most legal experts.

He had NO charges pending and his discharge from parole was two weeks away. Sailor was released first and Mundo decided he was going to change his course in life.

A DEA agent and CDC SSU agent (members of the Prison Gang Task Force) visited him in the Kern Co. Jail. They were very wary of Mundo's intentions and suspected he wanted to maybe taunt them since there was nothing we could do to keep him in custody.

Mundo knew we had a "hard on" for him. In other words, we wanted to bust his ass as he had indeed, with his other EME carnales, succeeded in "flying under our radar" for a good while.

Now he was handing us the keys on a silver platter and WE didn't know how to handle this offer to assist in the beginning.

In answer to your question: Mundo had nothing pending and did NOT need to "work off" any case(s). He was not one who operated under pressure so the terms had to be his terms or nothing.

This flew in the face of anything we had dealt with up to this point with men of his criminal stature and dementedness.

Yes, he became a "trophy" for us in LE but his story is an example that no one is too evil or too cruel (as he definitely was) to turn his life around. A great witness is his story and many bad guys will want to read it and be inspired.

His evil deeds spoke for themselves. When being considered to be used as a "historical EME witness" in the first EME RICO case, the federal prosecutors actually decided against using Mundo because his credentials looked even worse than "Topo" Peters, "Black Dan" Barela (who Mundo schooled in San Quentin in the early-1970's) and the rest of the EME defendants.

A jury would look at his deeds versus the deeds of the accused and Mundo would make them look like choir boys. So the feds declined to use him for that reason.

Peace ........

ZOOT-SUIT RIOTS 1942-43 where Pachucos had class. Beat up for having nothing more than a few threads more than the average joe of the day, these latinos stood up and fought us military men in uniform. I am 83 years old now and my daughter is writing this here so that maybe those who go before me understand the totality of what actually happened from the eyes of a witness that rode up from Camp Pendleton along "BLOOD ALLEY" on the back of a pick-up truck loaded with G.I.'s

Our truck unloaded at 6th street, and began the sweep up to figueroa catching every pachuco and just making them take off the extra threads. Nothing more. I heard that some G.I.'s from the VAN NUYS Armory were doing more than that. The ALPINE Armory guys were mostly Marines, and they were making the mark in vendetta for the elysian park guy who was dating some dame named Rosario. He was stabbed some seventeen times for no apparent reason. He lived. This news trickled down through the ranks and many of us were alarmed by this news and joined up to follow other units to defend the armory stations at that time.

We had also heard of the train stations along harbor city to downtown being rocked by riotous blacks indiscriminately hurling rocks at innocent passers-by. Our unit made some passes into those neighborhoods, but found the streets had been deserted by this time. We found some troublemakers in Artesia and chased them down and made quick work of them. By this time, the Van Nuys units had followed up, and the police had warned most of us to get back to our commands before the other shoe dropped. The riot was over. I want the families of the zoot-suit to know. Our guys were only responding to reports of rape and lawlessness, random shootings and beatings of our civilian populations. Pachucos seemed to have been the reason. I always admired the classy look of these fellows. Maybe that is one of the reasons others took to roughing them up in such an indiscriminate way. We also heard that these pachucos did in fact shoot the man that was supposedly killed by G.I.s

My name is Guy Morgan Simmons 1st Class Electricians Mate. U.S.N.

Our fortunes met at the wrong time, and the wrong place. Me and my fellow shipmates were responding to horrible reports of rape, beatings and mayhem. We found nothing but sporadic violence, and pachucos caught in the media mayhem crossfire. We are eternally grateful, it did not grow beyond what my eyes had seen. It was terrible. However, we were to see much worse thatn the eye could imagine only some 18 months later.

The Battle for IWO JIMA.

"That was a bloody battle"

I shall know no other worse.
