SNITCHES, STANLEY AND REDEMPTION.
On the day that Stanley Williams will be available for viewing I'll forward my not-all-that-original theory that he'd be alive today if he had only come clean and debriefed.

Stanley defenders claim that he should have been spared because he supposedly reduced violence and saved lives. The problem with that claim is that it's purely anecdotal. There's no hard evidence to actually back that assertion.

Now let's take an example from recent history. Specifically the Metro Task Force and the debriefed dropouts that became CIs in that investigation. Thanks to CIs, in a brief period between January 1994 and April of that same year, CIs were credited with saving the lives of at least 13 people and probably a lot more. These targets were mostly other homies and carnals but there were a lot of innocent victims as well.

Here's a quick rundown. When Frankie B. was up on murder charges, a certain party put a witness to that murder in the hat. Thanks to a CI, Pomona cops swooped in and put the witness someplace safe.

When all of Big Hazard was greenlighted, every Hazard had a target on his back. The LAPD did a lot of stuff against Hazard that looked like enforcement and harrassment to the uninformed but what they were really doing was showing the flag and keeping the shooters out of the neighborhood. Lives saved? More than a few. They couldn't save them all, though.

When two El Monte Flores homies were put in the hat for suspicion of killing Joker Flores, the son-in-law of a carnal, a CI talked and the two homies were snatched off the street by El Monte PD and tucked away someplace safe.

When Night Owl Castro volunteered to hit a tax resister, a CI came forward and Castro was quickly arrested on out of state warrants.

After China Boy took one in the chest from Hazard while enforcing the tax code, four Hazards were put in the hat. A CI came forward and the four homies were "made safe" by LAPD CRASH.

Last item. The night that E.J. Olmos threw a party to celebrate the airing of a documentary on the making of American Me, a couple of brothers had gathered up weapons and soldiers and were planning a live fire exercise. A CI revealed the plan and the drive-by never happened. Lives saved? Who can say.

This is not anecdotal. This is verifiable material to which names, dates and proof can be attached. So while it's fashionable in some circles to say that Snitches belong in Ditches, it's also fairly obvious that Snitches can keep people (gangsters and civilians alike) out of ditches. The fact is that more than a few people are walking around today who owe their lives to snitches and don't even know it. Ironically, you can bet that some of those people probably have a very low opinion of snitches.

If Williams had had even a smattering of "saves" like the few mentioned above, chances are the arguments to spare him would have found more sympathy with the Gov. Hell, there probably would have been a few cops and prosecutors who would have signed affidavits testifying to his having saved lives. As it turned out, Williams decided to stay gangster to the end. He chose to be a dead martyr instead of a live snitch. It was his call.

Prison 'peacekeeper' wielded influence at Sacramento-area prison
By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ and DON THOMPSON
Associated Press Writers
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Although doing time for murder, and accused of a variety of prison offenses, James Tigar was a trusted inmate "peacekeeper" when he allegedly ordered a subordinate to stab a fellow prisoner at the high-security California State Prison, Sacramento.
The assailant, Wade Arthur Shiflett, hesitated when a tower guard fired a warning shot, then attacked again on Tigar's command, according to prison system documents obtained by The Associated Press. Shiflett was shot to death by the guard.
"Peacekeepers" like Tigar are influential inmates entrusted to help the staff, smooth racial tension and in some cases control fellow prisoners. Their use in the Sacramento prison has since been restricted.
The November 2004 killing wasn't the first time that Tigar, a white supremacist with a swastika tattooed on his chin, allegedly ordered an assault.
In the previous five years, he had been accused more than 40 times of being involved in illegal activities, the prison documents show.
Among the allegations against Tigar, logged in reports based on inmate or officer accounts that the AP obtained:
-Tigar "makes and provides weapons to the whites. If you get a weapon from him and ... not use it you will be stabbed."
-"I watched (Tigar) stab the white guy at the white's table."
-"(Tigar) is the leader of the skin head prison disruptive group at (the Sacramento prison) and is responsible for ordering other white inmates ... to carry out assaults on other inmates."
-"He is well known for having drugs if you need them."
According to prison documents, Warden Scott Kernan was warned days before the 2004 shooting that Tigar allegedly had ordered at least four assaults on inmates.
Kernan said in an interview that he knew of Tigar's influence.
However, he said the reports implicating Tigar weren't reliable enough and that many other inmates have several reports of wrongdoing.
Still, he took "full responsibility for not locking (Tigar) up." Tigar was moved to another prison

Hey Hollenbeck! I would love to comment on Father Greg Boyle and the great work his has and is doing in the community. I'm kind of burned out after all the previous caldo de mitote, and emotional mole, but I would think that a blog and opinions on this great man should be a must.
He is castigated by LE because he won't cooperate with thier criminal investigations and also because he offers sanctuary, guidance, and opinions on the problems of gangs, poverty, immigration, and the "justice system". As far as I'm concerned he is a beautiful cat who is "stoned" and "crucified" by the power's that be because he is a "true Christian" and operates with his flock as Jesus christ would.

Care to tell us the names of any murder suspects that Father Greg Boyle knowingly harbored while the police were searching for them, and also tell us why Father Boyle was never brought up on charges? Thanks a bunch.

Hmmmm, just what a defense lawyer

And then the prosecutor would say:

Do you mean to tell me that in

If that is your opinion Mr. Script,

Father Greg Boyle is a "Catholic Priest" is a bound by a "higher power" than our justice system. He can not, after hearing a confession take that info and turn it over to the authorities, he can only suggest to the confessor that he should do the right thing. And also his mission as a priest is "salvation" and redemption" not punishment, that happens later by someone who dosen't need to give lie detector tests!
And also the comments about Father Boyle and his possibly harboring criminals or murderers, gangsters, etc;.
Hey wake up! get real! his "Mission Dolores" is located smack dab in the middle of maybe one of the roughest, most gang ridden, poverty stricken, areas in the US. He doesn't operate in La Canada/ Flintridge or Malibu!, his flock might be susceptable to a different set of problems, you think?
One thing I know he understands is that the "mission" is to keep his people out of the "system" and once in the "system" to get them out of it. "Don't let yourself become the fuel that supports so many and helps so few except the ones on the payroll!"

With no disrespect to the macho guys like Tijuana Jailer and Don Quixote, I would like to render a woman's perspective in what appears to be a male-dominated site.

I just read "Mexican Mafia: From Altar Boy to Hit Man". The only reason a middle-aged woman from Arkansas would even care about such a book is because approximately ten years ago I attended a function in which "Mundo" addressed an auditorium of high school kids and supervising adults.

His life's account was indeed riveting, much like his CD. The advice he shared with many of the teens, many who were indeed leaning towards a life bent on crime, had a major impact on two boys who later changed their ways and went on to play college football with one of them advancing to the NFL. Their names are unimportant and I doubt if Mundo ever knew this.

But that's not my reason for writing this. As Don Quixote mentioned: The "Homie in the Sky" will be the Man we all have to face and make an account to someday.

My reason for writing this is to point out something that I believe you gentlemen missed in your manly exchanges about snitching and not turning your back on your criminal partners, etc.

An obvious contribution to Mundo's reason for turning seems to be staring ALL of us in the face! A woman entered his life, guys. This woman had a profound affect on this man and if you read carefully, the time frame of his "change" takes place after he meets his wife-to-be who never became his wife.

I think maybe Mundo's macho never allowed him to be completely honest with us in that while he emphatically expresses that she is his "Delilah", he doesn't credit her with the primary reason for his change.

Am I right on? Just my two cents.

Dear Ms. Little Rock,
Excuse my young friend here for his "starbucks" comment. My thinking is you are more right than wrong. I've gotten through about 3/4 of Mundo's tale, and have to admit. it's quite a story.
I do'nt want to turn in my "book report" at this point, have to finish and digest contents but mainly wanted to thank you for your input, as I'm sure the other folks you mentioned will. My rudimentary take on Mundo's transition is most probably a combination of what you suggest coupled with his advancing age, and what I'm thinking is the "logic" that comes with a man packing a 132 I.Q. His carnales were dropping like flies. Alfie was a total mad dog, and Joe Morgan was only a wink away from punching Mundo's ticket. But then even after Joe got busted Mundo's still "operating"... Hey Little Rock, good observations and glad to hear that no matter what anybody feels about Mundo's rolling over if something positive comes out of Mundo's experience, like the influence on young peoples lives, then some good evolves.
And as to your feeling that a woman had something to do with his evolution to another being, you probably are in the ballpark.

As someone who is from the same era, ethnic, regional, religious and "moral"? background I would guess that besides any notion of self preservation, (his rolling over) I'd almost be willing to bet that an important rationale to his story would be the "old Catholic Church" with the bloody "Saints" and "Martyrs", and as odd as it seems the predominant "Irish" Priests ( in LA there was an almost Irish Mafia in the Catholic church, see the movie with Robert Duvall, and Robert DeNiro, "True Confessions" that was the real deal then), and the strict and no nonsense fire and brimstone sermons, along with scary stories of sinners, and a brutal enforcement of Catholicism,(very physical at times).
This was no joke to a young Chicano kid who was raised on old Mexican folk tales of sinners and the eternal punishment and suffering. And in retrospect I think that these Irish Priest's and Nun's had a curious way of dealing with us Mexicans and Italians too. It was a combination of the old Patron system and real rascist feelings, and sense of "preaching to the unwashed Pagan's who needed to be treated like children!
But make no mistake about it, that upbringing could be suppressed, but not forever, it had an extreme influence on us.
Also the women in our lives, Mothers, and Grandmothers, and in my case, Greatgrandmothers, who never ever gave up on us and who would suffer incredible humiliations on our behalf. These women had a powerful effect on us and sometimes just through there dogged determination would eventually wear you out and then you lived right (hopefully) and made there lives worth something.
Old story I know and maybe almost a cliche but never the less true.

Well, here's what you said:

" Maybe if Father Boyle
was sheltering somebody
that murdered your INNOCENT,
NON-GANG BANGING child in
a drive by shooting you
would feel different."

If this isn't an indicting statment, then what would be your point?

Are you saying that your, 'philisophical statement', doesn't at all suggest that Father Boyle harbors gang members, or anyone, for that matter, while they are wanted for a crime?

If it doesn't, why would you even present the hypothetical situation?

I have a couple for you;

What if someone's non-gang banging kid was kidnapped by aliens?

What if the Queen had balls?

Those are philosophical questions.

Yours was an indictment, as passive-aggressive as it may have been.

Anonymous said...

Well Mr. Script, since you are so adept at reading minds, let me
elaborate a little further for you.
Of course, you probably don't need me to since you can read my mind.
But I'll give it a shot anyway.
Let's see if you can grasp the concept of a philosophical statemnet.

Suppose a priest was working with child molesters and attempting to
have them turn their lives around and contribute something positive to their community. People were giving the priest props for what he was doing.

Then if I made the statement:
"Maybe you would feel different if
your child was molested" it would be a philosophical statement.
Do you get it?
There is always more than one way to look at things my friend.
The reason I capitalized "INNOCENT
NON-GANG BANGING" is because anyone who's child righteously belongs to a gang can somewhat expect that their child may very well meet with violence.
I hope this sheds some light on the matter for you.
However, if you choose to be so arrogant as to disregard my explanation and assume you know what I meant better than I do, so be it. I would hope you are not that arrogant.

" Maybe if Father Boyle

Statement, not question.
There is a difference.

Yours was an indictment, as passive-aggressive as it may have been.

I could see how it would seem that way if someone was extremely sensitive about the subject matter.
Unfortunately, as devastating as it
might be for you to hear it, you are incorrect.

whatever happened to the guys involved in the el monte killings?

April 22 1995
Eme defector Anthony Moreno and 4 other members of his family are killed. Joseph Valdez, Jose Ortiz, Daniel Logan and Jimmy Palma (South Ontario Black Angels) are arrested and questioned. They are later arrested again and booked with seperate charges. Word on the streets was that Raymond "Huero Shy" Shyrock and Luis "Big Homie" Maciel were the ones that ordered this hit.

October 1997
Jimmy Palma is stabbed to death on Death Row by fellow inmates.

January 7, 1998
Luis "Big Homie" Maciel is sentenced to death for ordering the murder of Anthony "Dido" Moreno and 4 other members of his family.

Got this from a web site:

Don't know how accurate it is overall but the above dates on the El MOnte thing are right on.

Like a big dysfunctional family (Married with Children?).

And, like the family that we are, I need to first address Don Quixote (head down and pawing at your arm and rehearsing my line like the big ugly dude after he obtained permission to address Don Corleone): "Don Quixote, If my feeble semblance of an apology was not recognized, I DO APOLOGIZE". I attacked your critique and I was totally out of line. There. And may your first grandchild be a masculine child!

[whatever happened to mike ison and huero flores are they still alive? or have they gone the way of tati torrez? ]

Mike "Acha" Ison was killed in a bar confrontation near his San Francisco home a few years ago. He was drunk, talking "smack" and ran into a group of biker types that literally beat him to death. Because Acha was not in good standing with his carnales at the time (you could say he was "on the bubble" rather than "In The Hat"), no one investigated this killing for retribution.

Luis "Huero" Flores died of an "alcohol overdose" some years back as well. He had just been released from custody, was due to test for the parole officer so he decided to consume some hard liquor. One bottle led to another and would you believe that the EME founder (who was a hope-to-die heroin user) died of an alcohol overdose! That's real life, I suppose.

[I thought the el monte killes were from Sangra, in san gabriel vally?]

I believe you are 100% accurate, Mr. Anonymous. "Dido" Moreno's killers were indeed specifically picked by "Huero Shy" because they were from Sangra, who were gang rivals of El Monte Flores, which is where Dido was from. The killers were supposed to hit Dido and this overkill cost Jimmy Palma his life when he arrived at San Quentin's Death Row.

I believe Wally has his ear to the ground for local "seismic" activity and we should maybe hear from him after another 400-odd posts? Let's hope not.

2 Inmates Killed in Lancaster
Some prisoner rights activists say crowding may have been a cause of the deaths.
By Amanda Covarrubias
Times Staff Writer
January 27, 2006
Two inmates have been slain over the last three weeks inside a cellblock at the Lancaster state prison, renewing concerns about overcrowding at the institution.

The latest victim was found Tuesday morning, stuffed under the bottom bunk of his cell and wrapped in a bedsheet, said prison spokesman Ken Lewis. Richard Ponton, 36, also reportedly had a pillow over his face and a cardboard box shielding his body.

"There was a significant amount of blood on the floor," Lewis said. "He apparently bled to death."

The killing came two weeks after another inmate was found wrapped in a bloody sheet in his cell.

That victim, Robert Painter, 59, had been beaten to death and died from multiple injuries to his head, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said.

Painter's cellmate is being blamed for his death. Ponton's death remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, though his cellmate is a suspect, authorities say.

Both deaths occurred within one cellblock in a unit segregated from the general prison population for inmates who need extra security.

Officials acknowledged that having two prisoners killed in the same cellblock within the same month was unusual. But they said it was too early to know whether changes were needed there.

"We don't know all the details yet," said Terry Thornton, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. "But any time there's a homicide in one of our prisons, it's always a cause for concern and investigation."

Some prisoner-rights advocates say the incidents highlight the danger of having two potentially violent prisoners in one cell. So-called double-celling is one of the ways that Lancaster and other facilities in California's prison system have been dealing with the growing inmate population.

"The deaths are due to overcrowding," said Cayenne Bird, whose son was once incarcerated at Lancaster and who heads a support group for prisoners' families. "The guards have a campaign going on that it's too few officers, but what it is really is there's too many inmates. They're carelessly double-celling the mentally ill with regular inmates."

Officials at the Lancaster prison have no immediate plans to change their screening process for placing two inmates in one cell. The prison houses about 4,500 minimum-, high-medium and maximum-custody inmates but was designed to hold fewer than half that number when it opened in 1993 as the only state prison in Los Angeles County.

Lewis said prison policy prevented him from disclosing why Ponton, Painter and their cellmates had been placed in the "administrative segregation" unit, adding that none of them were known gang members.

"Prison is an unpredictable environment," Lewis said.

"There's only three officers assigned to each cellblock, and each one holds 200 inmates," he added. "How can you do it? We have procedures in place with security checks to ensure everyone's safe. But anything can happen at any given time."

Charles Hughes, whose firing as a Lancaster correctional officer last year is on appeal and who heads the officers' union, said there is plenty of time for cellmates to hurt each other or for a prisoner to sneak into another inmate's cell.

"We could be releasing prisoners into the yard and be totally distracted, or the inmates will do something to divert our attention," he said. "These diversions happen all the time."

Furthermore, he said, prisoners often successfully lie their way into "sensitive needs" units with orders from gang leaders to kill another inmate.

"They say, 'We don't care where you are, we are going to get you,' " Hughes said. "My first nine years, we hardly ever saw any murders, but the last two or three years, there's been a lot of murders at Lancaster. Why? I don't know."

Ponton was serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for a murder in Los Angeles. His cellmate, Christopher Bass, was imprisoned for second-degree robbery in Ventura County.

Bass was being held as a suspect Thursday but had not been charged, and sheriff's investigators said they had not ruled out that someone else may have killed Ponton.

Painter was serving a 25-year sentence for setting fire to then-state Sen. Ray Haynes' office in Riverside after Painter became upset over having to register as a sex offender for a child molestation conviction.

State prison officials are also investigating the deaths of two inmates this month in Monterey County.

One occurred Jan. 3 at Salinas Valley State Prison and the other the previous week at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.

A cellmate is a suspect in at least one of the cases, prison officials have said.

I'm thinking that quote came from a place far far away. Spoken by Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise....

So has ANYONE seen Wally in the last month? He's probably sipping wine up in Mendocino.

Finished Ramon Mendoza's story.. Don Q - It aint Shakespeare, and I'm sure any attempt to let Gollywood produce a screenplay would deliver another motive for multiple murders from EME..

I can relate to your observation that the moment of salvation - the turnabout- the surrender to PGTF was vague.. But I'm also thinking that the author has license to keep it how he wants it.. A man and his Maker.. I was satisfied.

He bacame a whole lot more valid to my own larcenous nature when I read that he kept a couple gats for "emergencies". That kind of destroyed the image of the "saved carnal bathed in heavenly armorment".. I mean the man was redeemed but carried insurance??

Also the way he embraced LE so quickly and completely. Almost as if it was some sort of "Stockholm Syndrome" phenom was taking place..It reminded me of that Soprano's episode where Big Pussy was morphing into an agent so quickly after he "turned".. It gave me a gut ache. My heritage is Italian. My old man came out of that school, honor, omerta, respect..

Overall the book was a good read, no regrets. It brought up some details of the institutions that I could have done without, but in the end only sweetened my freedom..

I gotta say though, and this'll prob cause some flak, but these guys reminded me of Jimmy Breslin's book The Gang that Could'nt Shoot Straight.. I mean they were arbitrarily offing each other like crocodiles eating their young. They were foolish and obviously perpetually loaded on their own chiva the way they never could actually dispose of a body, instead using these shallow graves or freeway dump sites - crude. But I suppose indicative of the high-stress, high turnover organization they were sworn to..

That Alfie Sosa was a case!

Joe Morgan gave me pause, I related. Here he was Mero Mero yet chose to roadtrip with the old lady in his pickup with the camper armed with his old school M-1.. I mean I know he was wanted and was lamming it but you had to appreciate his style.. Yes TJ (and all of LE) I KNOW he was a cold-blooded killer but the man had miles of heart and I think even Mundo saw it and felt the sting of his own betrayal..

So most of this story transpired 30 yrs ago..The amount of defections has'nt diminished yet the body count has'nt either.. Sad..

Good Evening Don Quixote:

Who says this Blog can't sustain itself without the Big Blogger? Just read the Little Rock comment and the responses, "Q".

I believe you BOTH hit the nail on the proverbial head with the book evaluation. A woman can definitely be the Achille's Heel to any man. Additionally, your take on the Catholic upbringing is something I never gave much thought to. I enjoyed your take as it delves into a background shared by all Latino gangsters. It's even built into the book's title, isn't it?

Gava Joe threw a few things out there such as advancing age (if my math is correct, he was about 27 years "old" when he rolled); he was an above average guy in the intelligence department;

The other ideas need some getting into. 1)"carnales dropping like flies" - this is part and parcel of the life of a "carnal". The higher placed members, like Mundo, worried less about their status than the less proven; 2)"Alfie was a total mad dog" - Mundo and Sailor were his "heroes", not to mention his saviours when they "rescued" him back in 1975; "Joe Morgan was a wink away from punching Mundo's ticket" - Bingo! I believe that Mundo was extremely wary of Joe because Joe knew him very well and any slip up could bring suspicion his way. But Joe trusted Mundo too much ("Like a Son") and it appears that Mundo played his role about as best as he could without being detected by his bro's.

Another thought: If Mundo believed that he was in trouble PRIOR to rolling, why would he work undercover for 13 months, be privy to the most sensitive EME info including the whereabouts of fugitives Joe Morgan and Alfie Sosa?

One would think that with all the knowledge he already possessed, he would have simply come forward, cut his deal, and positioned himself out of harm's way. An enigma, for sure but any theory is plausible, I suppose.

If any of you ever saw the Wise Guy series with the Vinnie Terranova character, you can understand how an undercover FBI agent can get so embroiled with his "role" that he would "cross the line".

Well consider a dude who is fresh from killing two more (out of who knows how many total), decides he wants out and agrees to work undercover. His "role" takes him back to familiar turf, he becomes wary of Joe, "justifies" this contract on Bob Mrazek to survive (at least he thinks he needed to do this to survive) and carries it out.

When I say this I say this to tell you that I believe him, DQ, but hell, I could be wrong. Maybe I want to believe him too!

Whatever the case, he flirted way too much with potential death during his 13 months undercover to lead me to believe that he turned because he was afraid of his EME status.

Also, your take on the mothers is dynamic, Q. How can any vato loco escape the wrath of mom and continue a lifestyle that she disapproves of??? What rational vato would continue to break his mother's heart? Good stuff, Quixote man.

Peace and Good Night ....

In Mundos book he referred to his homeboy "Elmer" but didn't say why or who wacked him. I think that might have been part of the reason for him turning, amongst other things. Y onde anda el pinchi Wally? He's acting like one of them pushers who turns you on to the first fileraso for free then after he gets you prendido doesn't sell to you anymore. C'mon Wally I need a fix of some current activity happening in the calles or en la torcida.

ELMER?

Chapter XII
Page 131

"Carlos “Pieface” Ortega had accompanied Armando “Mandi” Varela in early-1973 at Folsom. Together they carried out the execution of Thomas “Elmo” Duran for avoiding the hit detail. After Elmo’s execution, Carlos began to think about his own predicament and his standing with his EME brothers.

Carlos concluded that he could very easily be next on the list because he had had an opportunity to kill NF members at Tehachapi and failed to take the initiative during his brief stay there. Carlos Ortega became EME's first major defector."

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS:
As we await the return of the Big Blogger with the latest news, I have an "old true tale" to share with Wally's World.
Don "Quixote", since you are very familiar with "Alfie" Sosa, you will likely view this as typical. Gava Joe, now that you have been properly introduced to a character who has been aptly described as the "Joe Pesci" of the Mexican Mafia (as in "The Goodfellows"), you will read about an incident that did not make it to Mundo's book but was related to me by Sailor Boy (in Mundo's presence) many years ago.
Alfie and Sailor were driving northbound on CA-99 just past Fresno in February-1977. Sailor was driving the Get Going Project's Pontiac Cutlass Supreme, Alfie was riding shotgun and there was a .38 in the glove compartment (which would later become the murder weapon in the Ellen Delia slaying in Sacramento). There was also a sawed-off .12-gauge shotgun in the trunk which had been placed atop a blanket and would have been in perfect view (next to a suit case) upon opening the trunk.
Since Alfie was not driving, he savored a bottle of rum in a plastic glass he cradled between his legs.
After stopping for gas, they resumed their drive and soon a police vehicle (I won't mention the agency) red lighted them for running a stop sign prior to hitting the on ramp.
Alfie quickly slid the .38 from the glove and into his waistband (he wore a dark wind breaker) as both vehicles stopped and the officer approached on the driver's side. He asked Sailor for his Cali D/License and Alfie responded that Sailor did not have one as he was the person in charge. Alfie then produced his license + a Get Going business card + the lease contract showing the car's registration to the Get Going Project.
The officer then notices the bottle on the back floorboard and asked who was drinking. Alfie admitted it was he and apologized but explained that this was the reason he allowed Sailor to drive. He further explained that Sailor had just been released from prison and was headed to a treatment center with the assistance of the Get Going Project.
The officer bought the story and instructed Sailor to bring the bottle of rum from out of the car. Sailor reached to the back seat and complied, thinking that the officer was going to confiscate the alcohol.
The officer told Sailor that he was going to issue Sailor a citation and wished him good luck in getting his life back together. He then, as Sailor is grabbing the bottle, tells Sailor to open the trunk of the car and to bring the bottle.
Sailor AND Alfie proceed to exit the vehicle together and at this point the officer's body language is relaxed and at no time does he command Alfie to get back in the car.
For any of you who have gone through LE training, look at everything this officer has done WRONG up to this point.
As the officer talks to Sailor, and Sailor casually, albeit slowly, walks toward the car's trunk, Alfie "strolls" on the opposite side of the car (remember, all of this is taking place on the right far shoulder of Hwy. 99 and Alfie is pretty much obscured from the officer's vision) and Sailor proceeds to open the trunk as he reads Alfie's eyes.
The instant the officer spots the shotgun, was Alfie's thinking, and displays recognition, Alfie would already have gun in hand and would commence firing into the police officer!
When Sailor opens the trunk, the suitcase is visible but, during the freeway driving, the shotgun is now on the opposite side of the suitcase and obscured from vision. Hastily, Sailor tosses the bottle of rum on the blanket where the shotgun once lay, slams the trunk shut and loudly (for Alfie's benefit)says, "Thank you officer".
Alfie and Sailor get back into the vehicle and everyone drives away in one piece.
The officer did everything NOT by the book, almost got killed for it and was still spared! It sends chills up my spine retelling it and it was another Close Encounter in the world of street madness.
Postscript: Later, at Alfie's
pre-trial hearing in Sacramento, Sailor was able to tell this story to the officer who had given him the ticket.

Peace ........

Great story Tijuanero! That LE officer's guardian angel was looking out for him that night for sure. Funny how uncertain our fate's are,and that's why a sense of irony along with humor and cynicism are "derigueur" to keep ones sanity in a place like LA.

Since were treading water until Wally's return ( the chisme is he's getting a "sex change" and will return as "Wallyesha") I'll tell a couple of stories everyone will get a kick out of, along the lines of yours and the LE officer who skated and never knew it.

It was Christmas Eve day in either 1979 or 1980 I was in the construction business and with a small crew (three of us) we were going to finish up a project in Long Beach, work a half day, call it quits. Besides myself I had working a well known "Carnal" I don't want to name for various reasons and someone very familiar to many. A friend of mine (still con respeto) Alfred "Tigger" Salinas.
We had finished work, noonish, and were on the "onramp" from the 405 freeway to the 710 north when our truck was passed by a 1 ton stakebed truck that was easily going 80 or 90 mph and swerving all over the freeway. We watched this scene as the 1 ton comes onto the 710 north and crosses over all lanes and hits the "center divider"
It was kind of like we were watching a movie as the truck after bouncing off the wall is all over the freeway and equipt. etc: is flying all over(not much traffic on X-mas eve luckily) it heads towards the large dirt shoulder and there is a "Highway Patrol" car parked there perpendicular to the freeway with an officer sitting in it probably writting a report.
Sure as shit the 1 ton "T bones" the CHP car and comes to a stop next to it.
It all happened right infront of us so I pull over and walk to the CHP car which is all fucked up on the driver side and has steam and smoke and glass etc: all over. The officer is sitting in the drivers seat with his forehead bleeding, and his posture is stiff as a board. I grab a rag from my pocket and place it on his wound(direct pressure) and ask him how we can help.
He's an old gray haired juda and he's grimmacing and say's "mother fucker" I just got back on duty last week after being off a year due to a back injury from wreck on the 91 frwy and now I feel like I'm paralyzed in my back again!"
He's strapped in and the cars all fucked up so I can't get him out so then he asks me "who are the guys that hit me?
These two Okie looking mutts are by now out(not a fucking scratch on them)and staggering around like their on PCP or something so I say, those are the motherfuckers right there, and he can barely turn his head to look and says "I hope the cocksuckers walk into traffic!"
So again I ask him "what can we do to help?" He pops the trunk from his seat and asks me to check for gas leaks and put out some flares, so I look back and "Tigger" is already there and eyeballing the shotgun in the trunk! Then we see it, fucking gas all over the ground and more coming out on the driver side at the rear.
Shit everythings smoking and I look at Tigger and shit we got to get this cop out of there before we get torched but he's all strapped in and fucked up in pain so we don't know to shit or go blind.
Then your cop hating "Carnal" drops down on the ground slides under the car and yells to me "It's a disconnected or broken gas line! I think I can fix it, and he reconnects it de voladas!". The gas stops, we put out the flares and then the police, ambulances, show up. A cop comes up and asks me what happened and I quickly tell him the details and we split, no names, no info, nada.

That Cop probably owes his life to one of the "mero homies' cause if it was anyone else there they would have certainly run off when the gas caught fire and that old ruco would have been toast.
Irony and Fate! Life in LA huh?

When they are "delinquent on their taxes" and have a green light, they pretty much are in a "no-man's land" (they are enemies of the North and on the EME's shit list as well).

When they get "caught up" on their "back taxes" (as Maravilla did, FYI), then they resume the life as a member of the Blue Crew.

By the way, an EME auditor will be traveling to your neck of the woods in the near future. Will you be a "tax evader" or will you comply with the existing Tax Laws?

I really am starting to worry about Wally now. He sticks his neck out quite a bit on this blog. If he was no longer with us (you know what I mean, being diplomatic)would anyone make a statement to the world of Wally?
After all he was kind of harsh towards Tokie before his demise, shit maybe some homeboys were "cripping" on his bad self,or maybe GWB had him in the hat due to NSA chisme?
No te preocupes! Vamos a un mil, como no! Hey Gava Joe, then it is true huh? Nortenos = farmeros, only if you were growing artichokes and broccoli in The Monterey Bay area and are a "Dago" on top of that, then you must of "got over" big time when you sold that property. Shit I got two carnals that bought homes in Santa Cruz and La Selva 20 yrs. ago so I know how much that real estate is worth. SHit now there moving all the raza out of Watsonville due to gentrification.
So you must be living the good life in Kansas. Let me guess, very upscale varrio in Lawrence que no? Yea no pig farm for you!

And trying to help answer the question about Beaver from Aves Or Clover. The Beaver I knew as a kid in Lincoln Hts. was from Clover and maybe Tijuas can help.
His crime partners were "Tin Man", "Momo"(shot to death by the juda), "Freddie Jasso","Lil Ray Arellano" (shot to death by the juda), "Peewee", "Gary Lebeau", quite a crew!

"The Beaver I knew as a kid in Lincoln Hts. was from Clover and maybe Tijuas can help."

Victor "Beaver" Minjares (Deceased) was indeed from East Side Clover in Lincoln Heights. Other "old timers" from ESC:
Manuel "Mapa" Lopez (deceased-heroin o.d. in 1976), Manuel "Buff" Perez (doing life in Texas for murder), Phillip "Black" Segura (doing "all day" in the feds) and Tomas "Japo" Trejo (executed by the EME in the feds in 1978). Momo was a close EME associate.

In reference to a previous comment, there is a new book out about the Mexican Mafia entitled THE MEXICAN MAFIA, THE STORY. It is written by Robert Morrill, who was one of the original members of the California Prison Gang Task Force.

As a member of the LE community, he saw much and participated in much including a great deal of the first EME arrests and prosecutions.

Here is the link to the Gabe Morales web site which lists the latest on the MEXICAN MAFIA:
http://www.angelfire.com/biz4/stopvarriowar/

FYI, in a time and age where the word "expert" is utilized freely, it is my opinion that Gabe Morales' writings and training seminars are indeed coming from a bonafide EXPERT who has years of "on the job experience" as well as being a diligent researcher.

Enjoy his work. Enjoy Robert Morrill's book too! If I sound like an infomercial then so be it. Check it out for yourself.

Wally seemed to be in a panic as he was attempting to conduct an interview with the local t.v. stations while hopping over several "ninos de la tierra". Wally thought they were overgrown cucarachas!

Youngster, go to Florencia and you'll hear the same lingo; likewise in Compton, Willowbrook, etc.

(the surenos are deep they have a lot of gangs there is a bunch at my school)

That's the "commercial" sureno. They think that by attaching an X13 to their 'hoods that they represent L.A. Not the same;

(he said how many norte gangs are there down ther, I told him i never even seen norteno till I moved here,)

That's true. The real banging takes place in So Cal between warring neighborhoods! If the EME ever devises a real truce between rival Chicano gangs, then we should really worry.

(See have come to see these dudes never will know what it is liek to have their own city hood whatever belong to them, because they are so many surenos gangs up here, they will never know what thats like to never see the opposition of the prison gangs in not i their own back yard.)

Apples and Oranges. Different set of dynamics in So Cal. This is what makes the EME's influence and stronghold so amazing.

(I hope you undrestand what Im trying to say,)

We understand you but you should stay in school and keep away from that b.s.

Comparing So Cal and L.A. street gang members with other areas is really not a fair assessment. It's like comparing New York City gangsters to Buffalo and Rochester and other Western N.Y. gang members.

Different regions have their unique set of living circumstances. First off, ALL gangs are deadly and that should go without saying. L.A. has the history behind their gang culture and it has evolved into a Chicano nightmare! Absolutely nothing to be proud of.

Nor Cal Chicanos want to "be like Mike" .... and they are doing a damn good job of it in areas like San Jo, Stockton, Salinas, etc. and, again, nothing to aspire to emulate. The end result is Chicano on Chicano slayings, innocent victims caught in cross fires, and everyone waving their "flags".

OK, so maybe they have a long way to go (Nor Cal) to attain the level of depravity of our So Cal brethren but what is the end result: attending another heart wrenching funeral procession? Sorry, but that's not my idea of glory.

If everyone examines their hearts, I think most of us arrive at the same conclusion: better to go to war in the uniform of our country (wearing RED, WHITE and BLUE) than to fly a flag that brings shame.

God forbid that a domestic tragedy should ever reoccur, but if another 9-11 hits us again, we'll realize (again) that we have a REAL enemy to worry about that's a real threat to our families.

Peace ........

NOT EXACTLY,IN COMPTON,FLORENCIA
AND WILLOWBROOK....THEY MAY SPEAK AND SOUND LIKE BLACKS,BUT NOT AS BAD AS THEM NORTENOS...THERE IS A FEW VARRIOS IN LOS ANGELES AND SURROUNDING AREAS THAT DO SPEAK WITH A BLACK TWIST TO IT,BUT THEY DONT REPRESENT THE WHOLE SOUTHSIDE,THE MAJORITY OF SOUTHSIDERS SPEAK SPANGLISH,BUT UP NORTH,EVERY NORTENO SPEAKS LIKE A BLACK MAN,98% OF NORTENOS! SPEAK LIKE BLACKS...AND I MEAN THEY SAY NIGGA THIS NIGGA THAT,WITH THAT SAME SLANG AND SWAGGER,SO THAT IS WHAT THE KID WAS TRYING TO SAY....
THERE IS PLENTY OF BLACK GUYS IN NORTENO GANGS,CHECK OUT SOME OF THE OLD TEEN ANGELS MAGAZINES,YOU SEE NORTENOS WITH NEGROS HOLDING UP RED RAGS,MY FAMILY LIVES UP THERE,AND UP THERE YOU SEE MORE INTERACIAL RELATIONSHIPS THAN ANYWHERE ELSE....BLACK AND MEXICAN,BLACK AND WHITE,BLACK AND ASIAN.....FUCKEN BLACKS ARE BOIKING EVERYONE UP THERE!..LOL
BUT IN ALL SERIOUSNESS,THE BLACK CULTURE/LANGUAGE WHATEVER IT IS,IS REALLY INFLUENTIAL UP THERE...

AND ABOUT NORTENOS POSTING UP DOWN HERE,I'VE SEEN MANY DOWN HERE,BUT THEY ARE USUALLY FAMILY MEN,I ALWAYS FIGURE THEM OUT BY THE WAY THEY SPEAK....THEY TEND TO SAY THE WORD(HELLAH) WAY TO MANY TIMES!
AND NOW THAT I REMEMBER....IM NOT SURE WHAT VARRIO IT WAS,BUT IT WAS IN PASADENA,IT WAS A FAMILY THAT MOVED DOWN HERE FROM UP NORTH,
THE BOYS WERE NORTENOS,BUT ANYWAYS
THEY STARTED THEIR CLICKA,BUT THEY DROPPED THE 14,AFTER SOME SCHOOLING
BUT THEY ARE STILL A VARRIO TODAY,OF COURSE SOUTHSIDERS,BUT WHEN THEY STARTED,SOME OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS WERE NORTENOS..
IF I REMEMBER I'LL POST IT UP!

so whats maravillas status right now?..btw youngster from up north....it aint no different from a gangster killing for whatever reason..then it is for an american soldier invadeing a country under false cicumstances..so dont let that pig trick u into thinking ur raza is shamefull...their both soldiers takeing orders from sum1 else.

Good post little truka, I can tell your a smart kid, make sure you act like it, your parents moved you to a better situation (God Bless Em!). Just a word to the wise, don't get in the mix, don't think you have to represent! Go solo and have fun, remember what Jack Nickelson said in "One flew over the cuckoos nest" "Your a young kid, you should be out bird dogging chicks and banging beaver" Represent your parents!

Tijuanero has said there is a difference between LA gangs and others, let me give you a following example.
Hey Tijuas thanks for letting me know I still don't have "Oldtimers Disease" it's curious but I still remember many of the people from back in the day, some may wonder why? Survival and well being!

As a 9, 10, 11 year old and as a fledgling gangster (not unusual but typical), we had to know and study not only the "movidas" but you had to know names of the gangs and where their neighborhoods were, also who was from what gang, and who they were related to, and what subgroup from the varrio, "Cobras, Happy Valley", "Scorpions,Hazard",
"Jokers or Jesters,Clover",
Peewees or Little Avenues",etc:, ect;,.
Who controlled what playground, park, schools, Alley's,.
We had to be able to identify the different "placasos" and produce our own in an artistic but traditional manner.
We had to know not only who our enemy's were but who our enemy's enemy's were. Who did we attack on sight, what neighborhoods did we "back up", when did we stay neutral? Was there some recent pedo needing quick revenge?

Even going to a party in another area could be potentially dangerous. Example; "Hey, Tutie from Frogtown's cousin "Sweetpea" is having a party over in Echo Park Friday". Simple? Absolutely not! The reaction would be, "She's going around with some vato from Temple St. so they'll be there and there tight with Toonerville who we have pedo with, so we should have reinforcements cause there'll be pedo for sure!
It's way more complicated than up north where if there's a party in Gilroy the vatos from Morgan Hill know not to be there! No I'm talking about just one area in the LA eastside!
Girls? Hey who's that cute girl at school? Leave her alone ese she's from the Avenues and is going around with "Blinky" from Dogtown!
This was important shit you had to know even as young as 9 or 10 years old. After getting "ratpacked" and fucked up a few times a youngster either survived or didn't.
SHit if we would have studied that hard in school with less difficult, non life threatening issues we all would have been DOctors and Lawyers! It was constant and continuing criminal education, and what I have described is just the tip of the iceburg!
It's hard work, no future Truka! Fly right!

You are semi correct in saying some nortenos speak with the "hip hop" slang.
This is true in the east bay, and San Fran.
In the south bay however, San Jose and surrounding areas they speak just like any cholo in so cal will speak. They are more from the pachuco style from the past since the oldest varrios are in San Jose.
El Hoyo Palmas and Varrio Horseshoe (West Side San Jo).
South of San Jo is more a chicano style also, like Salinas. Where I grew up, none of the homies spoke like Mayates. In the 80's it was all about lowriding and oldies.
Also, San Jose is mostly hispanic, whereas San Fran and Oakland have large black population.
When I was young, we neve got into it with Surenos, there just wasn't any around. We fought other towns and hoods in our own town.
Things are much different now and for the worse with kids getting killed all the time.
Salinas has high murder rate than L.A. per 100,000 people.
Now before everybody rips me and says it doesn't compare, it is smaller but its the murder rate per 100K people.
Lesson over, carnalitos.

If anyone understands simple math, Retired Joker, on any given year you will have cities like Washington D.C., Santa Ana, CA, and Little Rock, Arkansas, as the worst per capita in murders and this dubious ranking is pretty consistent.

Salinas does compare, if we're just talking percentages, and Booger Hollow, Arkansas would probably compare too.

But in sheer volume, it doesn't come close. New York, L.A., Chicago, D.C. and other larger cities just overwhelm in sheer numbers. Of course, the nicer areas bring the city population total much higher, hence a lower percentage. I don't think folks are clamoring to come west to Salinas!

But your point is well taken. Even Tulare and Visalia has its problems.

T-VO said...

Point taken, its a law of averages. But one thing I will say is that Salinas has not fluctuated over the last 3-4 years. Thier numbers are alarming city officials for having such a high murder rate for such a small population.
You're right,There are not major pushes for people to relocate to Salinas and East Oakland, thats for sure.
Unfortuntely its appealing to poor people since they can afford to rent or even buy a house in these areas.
Uh-oh, I hope I just didn't spark a poor/ethnic/immigration thread.

ok im out, met a cool hyna going to try and kick it with her tonight. oh yea mostly all of my friends well id say all of my have a dad at home, and al of my friends are chicano. laters

Hey "Retired Joker", you say " some norteno's speak with a hip hop slang" But that is even incredible to me being a Chicano. I'm not saying rascism is right, shit I knew plenty of raza that were blacker than Nat King Cole.
But where I grew up (LA) the cultures were so different that it was rare to see any serious cultural crossovers.
THe mayates are loud, talk shit all the time, will turn on you even if your a friend and a bunch of other maya's are around, and in my experience, are part of an important movida . They were always weak and would rat you or each other off to LE very quickly when under pressure or threat, (one of the rules of thumb in the drug business used to be "don't do any serious business with either mayates or women").
The women part was understandable as most had kids that LE could use to pressure them with for Info, but mayates were just weak. They would even forgive each other for snitching to LE. I remember on more than one occasion while "busted' hearing these mayate's, "Damn homes I'm sorry for ratting you off but I just got weak and gave it up! ANd the other motherfucker would say "That's alright blood I can dig it, I only got five years!" That kind of shit was "foreign to us"!
Then in a street pedo or in torcido I would see these chanates run for there life, leaving a homeboy or two behind to save themselves! Shit that would never happen with Chicanos I grew up with! Many times I saw vatos stand their ground an take a ferocious
beating or worse when they were out numbered to save a homeboy who was down. Fuck we used to practically salute those enemies from another varrio when that happened, they got huge respect! That was the chicano way, better to fucking die than lose respect.

Hey Retired Joker, I knew lot's of old timers from up north and I can't believe they would ever act like mayate's and back their shit against there own raza.
Torcido's that I talk to now are still shocked and saddened to see what's happened in the joints where Nortenos are hooked up with the Negro's.
A lot of them say "it's our own fault because we put them against the wall and they had hook up with the Maya's who are our old enemies.
It's very weird,
There at one time was a "Leva" on "Temple St. varrio because they had some blacks that claimed Temple but I think it has changed.

Hey Tijuas, speaking of Temple St.
a guy I grew up with before he moved to Temple St. was a good friend at one time, and the last I heard he was doing life and was a "shotcaller", he got busted again for ordering hits from the LA County jail (years ago) his name was "Vincent Muniz" aka "Jughead from Temple St." Is he still alive, active?

If you ever been to the pinta you should have learned that the busters tienen el mismo estilo que los pinché changos. There was even an instance when I was in the hoyo in Jamestown,a buster from "san joe" and a pinacate were going out to a visit together, when the other changos asked the negro where he was going he shouted out for all (even GOD) to hear "homeboys sister is pulling me out" and he was talking about the chicano dude from san joe's sister! If any homie from this side of Bakersfeild would of did a movida like that he would of got wacked devolada! Them busters smoke after the changos ,eat with them, and drink with them. I done some tiempo with negros from barrios down here: Hazard,Florencia WS18st. and they all were good batos, if pedo broke out they were right there front and center, but even as we done tiempo alot of us Raza, me included wouldn't smoke or drink after them, not out of disrespect but because thats the way we were brought up in these neck of the woods, hell I'd get coscorrones from my older brothers if I left the TV on soul train for too long. As a matter of fact the first time I even was in the same surroundings with negros was in central juvenil when I was like 12 years old. from day 1 it was "fuck those pinche mayates"! What is a terrible thing is alot of the youngsters today no matter where you see them, and they might be Raza or gabachos, but they got that same fucked up estilo as the terronés. With there pants hanging off there asses and listening to that pinche ruido they call music!

I could recall another time when these gabachos had paperwork on this one negro who was also in the hoyo with us (split yards) and when the gava told the negros "homeboys" that he was a rat, they asked him to bring out the paperwork, so this poor "Wood" goes throught the trouble of keistering the needed paperwork brings it out, then he has to do like a mission impossble just to get the papers to the negros yard,so he finally completes his mission, but trip on this when the negros get the paperwork, all they say is "damn homeboy you told? and the rat says "yea fuck that whiteboy he was stabbing cuz" that was it case closed, justifiable snitching, to them. The fucken gava didn't even get his paperwork back. Of course me and all the other homies on the yard thought it was the funniest thing. But thats how they are pinches sin verguensas.

San Quentin inmates in lockdown after riot

(02-02) 14:44 PST SAN QUENTIN -- About 900 inmates at San Quentin State Prison are on lockdown while officials investigate rioting that injured 16 inmates this morning and yielded 36 slashing weapons fashioned from toothbrushes, wire, bed springs, razors, pens and more, authorities said.

The riot started shortly before 8:45 a.m. in a dining hall that serves new inmates, corrections Sgt. Eric Messick said. It involved Latinos who prison officials believe are associated with the Nortenos (Northerners) gang fighting with a group of black prisoners, he said.

The noise of the brawl and ensuing response by correctional officers sparked a similar riot in a nearby dining hall. Messick said the second group of inmates may have coordinated with the first and been waiting to hear the officers' whistles as a cue.

"It quickly escalated to the point where we had to put out on the radio for all available staff to respond," Messick said.

Each of the dining halls holds about 280 inmates. At the time the fighting broke out, one was full and prisoners were filing into the other for breakfast. In all, about 400 inmates were in the dining halls, and an estimated 86 were involved in the fighting, Messick said.

The incident drew an emergency response of about 100 officers who used pepper spray, batons and physical force to control the inmates, Messick said. The prisoners were herded into the recreational yard, where 16 of them were found to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Messick said. He said 70 inmates had been exposed to pepper spray.

Six black prisoners were slashed or stabbed. All of the injured were treated by prison doctors and released back to their cells.

There were no reported injuries to staff members.

The prison remained on a heightened level of security until 10:21 a.m.

The blocks where the prisoners are housed remained on lockdown, meaning the inmates could not move around San Quentin except to receive medical treatment. The lockdown status will be reviewed every 24 hours, Messick said.

In general, the inmates involved in the rioting were parole violators and those serving sentences shorter than 15 years, authorities said.

Messick said the riot probably was not connected to a similar incident that occurred Jan. 12, in which 23 inmates and two correctional officers were injured in a fight that broke out in the evening in a dining hall.

However, prison officials do think the violence is linked to tensions between the Nortenos and the black prisoners, Messick said.

"There have been ongoing difficulties between those two groups," he said, including two fights in August.

The most recent lockdown at San Quentin occurred Jan. 25, when a death-row inmate slashed the arm of a correctional officer.

Looks like Nortenos have their share of "work" against blacks too.

Nortenos sure as hell didn't act Black when I was growing up here in Sacramento. But, this was late '80s, early '90s.

And, there were very few Sureno gangs here then. One well known Sureno gang was called 'Gardons', in South Sac.

At the school I went to, the main rivalry was Varrio Centro Sacra X4 and Varrio Franklone Sacra X4, and they went at it constantly. Also, one of the two would frequently go at it with Oak Park Bloods.

It was almost all red on red in those days.

So, maybe today the younger Mexicans are acting Black and their only enemies are Surenos. I would have no clue.

But 15 years ago, the Norteno gangs in Sacramento were just as territorial as the Sureno gangs down South. Not as deep in numbers, obviously, but the culture was similar; And, the hard core Nortenos did not act Black. They rarely even got along with Black gangs.

Times have obviously changed, and, as a matter of fact, I think everyone BUT Surenos act Black these days. It's just something America picked up in the 1990s. Don't blame Clinton. Even Bush called Saddam Hussein a 'hater'; In fact, that's probably what finally killed Reagan, lol.

Gardon's are not surenos, they are crips thats why they wear blue, there is sets there, Garden Block Crips, and Garden (Gardon Boys)which are nortenos the crips back up the nortenos, my brother went to burbank high school which is right next to that hood. There are like 20 surenos gangs in sacramento currently the biggest is 47TH street boys these fool sare deep! And ride on the snorte all the time! Also the city of roseville in sacramento has become a little L.A. Nothing but southsiders my, i bump into fools from L.A. there all the time, vatos from happytown, es18th street, echo park, i met some vatos from cuatro flats!CERIO! its crazy also if you go to the swapmeet in roseville(or auction they call it here) you booth and booths of oldies cds and surenos rap cd's and all see walking around is Dodger blue everywhere, you never or hardly ever see any nortenos there. I seen 2 there since last summer! no joke, alot of these vatos come from down south are are worshiped for being from the south and auto macically the younsters fall in lin. Its because they see thes vatos call out the norte and watch them fold. They only talk shit when they are deep. My cousin hit some fool up last night at the liquor store, as soon as that buster came out of the store he was on some"hey, wa wa wa whats up man" my cousin told him dont say wahats up to me ses, this vato had a nebraska corn huskers hat red jacket, red shostrings and fubu pants, i justed laughed and told my cousin to leave him alone. Crzy ass shit. anyways that 2 cents, and sacramento is boring as hell!

If your so proud of that piece of shit country then pack your shit and hit the road, jack. Oh, I mean, hit the road, "joaquin".

Pure jente of Aztlan. Your nalgas are pure .... pure mierda. The bottom line and the reason you farmers wear 49ers jerseys and Sacramento Queens junk is because you are American sports fans. The color part is understandable too... it's subliminal. Red = Farmero = norteno.
Blue = Sureno = L.A. & Friends

We like our NFL teams and players because we too are AMERICAN. And in "Amerika" we Chicanos are somewhat confused ... we speak English, Spanish and Spanglish.

But just like Americans from the South (Louisiana, Mississippi, etc) are different from Amricans from the West or East Coast, so too are Chicanos from Nor Cal and So Cal. That's the way it is, like it or not, accept it or not. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

So, niggah, a brown carnal here has no problem with you working on your Rainbow Coalition if that's your flavor of the month.

I'm with Retired Joker. Most nortenos from San Jo, Salinas, Stocktone etc. are "full roasted" Chicanos just like most Chicanos from Verdugo (San Bernardino), Logan Heights (San Diego), Casa Blanca (Riverside) and untold numbers of barrios in Los are too.

The wannabe Negroes, wherever they may be, have no identity whatsoever. If you think a Chicano is confused, get a look at the Tupac-loving mfers that you speak of and therein lies confusion.

Picture a Pendleton-wearing vato with his feet pointed outward and his hands pointing into his chest (like his hands are paralyzed) talking like Allen Iverson. Makes you want to resurrect Pancho Villa to lead another Columbus, New Mexico massacre ..... this time against these out-of-touch ese's.

KNBC - Los Angeles:

More Than 100 Injured In Prison Riot

POSTED: 5:39 pm PST February 4, 2006
UPDATED: 5:52 pm PST February 4, 2006

CASTAIC, Calif. -- At least one inmate has died and more than 100 were injured Saturday in what authorities called a riot at Wayside Prison in Castaic, a fire official said.

The riot began at about 3 p.m. and was continuing as of late Saturday in the maximum security wing of the all-male prison in the 29300 block of The Old Road, which is also known as the Pitchess Detention Center, said Ron Harralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

About 4,000 inmates are involved in the melee, Harralson said.

The injured were being brought to a triage area to be assessed, and the more seriously injured were being taken to hospitals.

Harralson said he did not know what started the riot.

About 100 inmates were injured a decade ago in another riot at the prison that was sparked by tensions between black and Hispanic inmates, NBC4 reported.

Sheriff Lee Baca was just interviewed on Channel 9 KCAL and he pretty much indicated that the recent decisions mandating integrated yards in penal facilities be followed. Baca said that the large disproportionate number of Hispanics in L.A. County demonstrates how one-sided an outcome can be when blacks and Hispanics are mixed.
He further said he would have to sit down with the ACLU and have a "long talk" because saving human lives is more important than "appearances" !!

The first test case has taken place (integrated yards) and the shit has indeed hit the fan. Over 50 inmates are in critical condition. More to come .....

One dead after jail riot

Saturday, February 4, 2006; Posted: 10:38 p.m. EST (03:38 GMT)

CASTAIC, California (AP) -- A riot at a maximum-security jail Saturday afternoon left one inmate dead and more than 100 injured, nine critically, authorities said.

Numerous ambulances were summoned to the remote North County Correctional Facility after fighting began and guard fired tear gas. No law enforcement personnel were injured, said Inspector Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

"We have 100-plus injuries with nine critical and eight minor," Haralson said. One inmate was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Jail officials were not immediately available for comment.

Paramedics were stationed outside the facility because tear gas was used to subdue the rioting, Haralson said.

Televised reports showed a long line of ambulances outside the facility. Firefighters laid out colored plastic sheets to treat the injured.

The North County Correctional Facility, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, is a maximum-security complex composed of five jails that together house about 4,000 inmates.

One dead and more than 100 hurt in Castaic jail riotANDREW DALTONAssociated PressCASTAIC, Calif. - A race-related riot broke out Saturday afternoon at a maximum-security jail facility and one inmate was killed and more than 100 injured, including 20 hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.
Numerous ambulances were summoned to the remote North County Correctional Facility about 3:20 p.m. after fighting began between black and Hispanic inmates, said Deputy Steve Suzuki, a sheriff's spokesman.
A 45-year-old black inmate who was a registered sex offender was killed, Suzuki said. Black and Hispanic inmates at the facility were being segregated and a lockdown was ordered systemwide, Sheriff Lee Baca said.
Authorities normally can't segregate prisoners based on race or ethnicity because it is illegal, but legal advisers said it can be done in emergency situations, Jones said.
About 1,800 to 2,000 inmates were involved in the rioting that lasted for 30 minutes to an hour and about 200 inmates engaged in "serious fighting," Suzuki said. It appeared that no weapons were used, but inmates tossed mattresses and banged heads against bunk beds, officials said.
Smaller fights broke out for at least four hours after the main brawling ended, but no injuries were reported from those altercations, said Sam Jones, chief custody officer of the county jail system.
Nonlethal pepper spray projectiles were fired into the melee, Jones said.
Twenty-six inmates were treated at the facility for injuries, Suzuki said. The 20 inmates who were hospitalized did not have life threatening injuries.
"The motivation appears to be racial tensions and a carry-over of a feud between black and Hispanic gangs," Suzuki said.
The fight apparently was connected to the stabbing two days ago of a Hispanic gang member by a black gang member at the downtown Men's Central Jail, Suzuki said.
Authorities had information that a disturbance was imminent, but they didn't know the time or location, Jones said.
"We're very short-handed and we did an admirable job in quelling this," he said.
Sheriff's officials showed a letter they said was from an inmate that was given to them by an informant after the rioting.
It read: "No disrespect, but if blacks come in any dorms we will fight. We do not want to go against the sheriffs! Please separate us race by race for everyone's safety. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, all the inmates."
No law enforcement personnel were injured in the rioting, said Inspector Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department
Paramedics were stationed outside the facility as they performed triage for their own safety and because of the pepper spray used to subdue the rioting.
Televised reports showed a long line of ambulances outside the facility. Firefighters laid out colored plastic sheets to treat the injured.
The North County Correctional Facility is a maximum security complex comprised of five jails within one facility on a 34-acre site and houses about 4,000 inmates.
It is located about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
The county jail system, which is the largest jail system in the United States, on average has a daily population of about 21,000 inmates, according to the sheriff's department.
In 2000, a three-day riot at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic injured more than 80 inmates, leaving one in a coma. Attorneys representing 273 black inmates filed a civil rights lawsuit alleging the Sheriff's Department failed to disarm Hispanic inmates.
In 1998, several racially motivated brawls at the series of jails in Castaic injured dozens of inmates. At the time, officials estimated there had been 150 such jail fights since 1990.
In 1996, 5,300 prisoners battled. Six guards and 123 inmates were injured after the Mexican Mafia prison gang ordered an attack on blacks.

The pinche cagada hit the fan, and still know Wally to be heard from, que chingado esta pasando??

The shit will definitely "hit the fan" now. The difference between the pinta and the condado is the neverending "Court Lines". You can lock down a state joint and leave it like that until you classify and segregate the main agitators.
In county, the machine has to keep on rolling; people being released, people being booked, people herded to different courts and that's where your boys (black and brown) will meet up.
The deputies are mostly incidental. The spill over effect will carry out onto the calles and the EME is definitely stirring the pot (as usual).
I can already read the huilas: hit the pinchi terrones! Al rato con los pinacates! I think Louisiana sounds about right for most of these osicones apestosos!

But, I'd hate to say it, L.A. is boring too! The night life in L.A. is pathetic compared NY, Miami, Chicago, Houston...even San Fran and San Diego.

So, if you're from L.A. and you think Sacramento is boring, you should be used to it.

For sure there are those that simply love to see the savages at each other's throats. And that is unfortunate. With all that said and done, the real culprits, I'm afraid, are the perpetrators themselves, not staff.
Prison wardens, politicians, cops and yes, even the prisoners themselves are always asked for the reasons behind prison/jail violence. A much ballyhooed and popular response is: overcrowding.
That seems to be the "problem" in California: overcrowding. Blame it on overcrowding.
Never do we hear that prison guards are woefully undertrained; rarely do we hear that many c/o's are barely one notch higher than your typical street gang member.
It's always "overcrowding". How convenient a response to the problem of violence behind bars.
The environment in the prisons and jails of California is directly reflective of the environment on our streets. We just had some long exchanges about places like San Jose, Salinas, San Bernardino, San Diego, how about Roseville in Nor Cal, Lake Elsinore in So Cal. What ingredients in our society make it sooo attractive to our youth to entice them to join street gangs?
Is it the breakdown of the family unit that pushes our kids into the eager and waiting arms of the street gang - their "extended families"?
Is that "gang family bond" so strong that incarceration provides little or no deterrent?
You see, in California, gang membership is not like joining a club. It goes much deeper and is taken much more seriously. As gang life becomes a religion, the physical presence of jail bars only serve as a temporary separation of mortal adversaries.
So, while the U.S. Supreme Court plays it's game of politcal correctness, and ACLU members join the choir, a cruel game is being played on the prison yard chess board.
The inmates are definitely going to play out their roles because that is what their "religion" tells them to do: attack.
Solution: Although temporary, you must segregate by race. Sorry, but in this instance, listen to what Sheriff Baca said. Screw the political correctness. Concern yourself with saving lives first.
I hear you, StillNo. Those warped minds in the LE community would love to see the "animals" gnawing at each other. On the other hand, the warped minds in the 'hoods would like nothing better than to see the blood flow as well.
Let's hope that this L.A. mess is diffused and that a cooling off period will stave off any potential escalation.

Interesting how you see no difference between the two...

And, I never said ALL, or even MOST LE officals promote gang violence for their own benefit. If it's being done, it's only a few that are doing it.

I do find it troubling, however, when I see a comment here, by someone who I suspect may be an LE officer, celebrating prison violence and hoping for more. I hope I'm just being presumptious in assuming this person is a C.O., or LE officer of any kind. If they are, we've got a sick fucking copper on this blog who need their badge taken, yesterday.

So many subjects to touch on.
First I will address Script and Don, and the youngster from Sac Town.
I'm 35 and when I was growing up nobody talked to or spoke like Mayates and we fought mayates on the streets all the time. None of my homeboys talk like Mayates and yes Don, most Veterano's or full blown NF Soldiers don't talk like mayates either and look down on the young generation and their RAP slang.
Its definitely a generational thing, most of these kids growing up in the "Rap" age talk like Tupac.
I don't think its just young Nortenos north of San Jo either. I've seen lots of south siders bumping rap out their rides. Hell, look at these guys like LiL Rob and even Kid Frost who spoke like a mayate. That type of speak is spreading.
Puerto Ricans call each nigga all the time, its like their honorary Mayates. Samoans, Filipinos and some asian gangs use the nigga tag and mannerisms also. And of course we all know what a WIGGER is.

Its a trip but the only down mayates I knew where the one that grew up in chicano neighborhoods and spoke like cholos. The fools couldn't dance or play basketball!

I predict the ACLU will in turn get sued when a mayate gets killed again in the next riot because some fucking idiot that segregation of torcidos violate thier civil rights.
Call me crazy, but should they have rights at all since they most probably took someobody elses rights and thats how they ended up in there to begin with?
This country is getting too PC.

Here's an update on the L.A. Jail Lockdown:

http://www.nbc4.tv/news/6770269/detail.html

I've posted a few news updates as the news broke; then I read a comment authored by Still No Script. Dude, what in the world is your story? This is a fucking blog where people can unload, get angry, express opinions (as you did) and share information.

How in the world does your self righteous ass (and an obvious fucking liberal to boot) come to a conclusion that a peace officer is rooting for more carnage? Why would you even go there? The subject matter is brown vs. black inmates fighting each other in a prison facility and you pop off with that crap.

I have two brothers and one sister who are cops; I have another brother who is doing time in the state. I love them all and I don't take sides. I HATE what my jail bird brother "does" but I love him as much as my police family members.

Your damn "insinuation" is insulting. You base it on nothing but your paranoia and your left wing leanings and then you bring that shit here and "read into our comments" as if you were a fucing clairvoyant.

I think you need to buy yourself a surf board, look for a nice Southern California wave, and ride it!

In the meantime, don't insult our law enforcement community just because you have a personal problem with them. If it's that bad, write a script!

What a surprise that StillNoScript would have anti-LE leanings.
The EME calls the shots and shit jumps off. Then he finds a way to
make a perjorative comment about
SOME LE officers who MIGHT be
cheering over the violence.
Ok Mr. Script, I agree with you on that. IF there are any LE doing what you said, they should have their badges taken. I agree.
You used the term Scumbags to describe a LE who would be cheering on the violence.
PLEASE tell us Mr. Script, in a YES or NO answer, do you consider the people that gave the orders for the violence to take place
SCUMBAGS??? Like I said, not one of your long winded political editorials, just answer the question YES or NO? Are the big carnals Scumbags?

I know this is off-topic but you DO realize that while the OG cholos were wearing those fine Pendleton shirts draped over their arms. Lookin all dapper in their razor-creased Frisco jeans and spit shined Florsheims, us raggeddy surfers were wearing the same Pendletons w/our cutoffs and huaraches?

Gava - your posts trip me out, I read them and feel like I'm watching a CHiPs rerun on acid. SoCal in the 70's - shortboard revolution, uncrowded lineups, naked hippie chicks on the beach, maybe the best time/place to be a surfer, ever??

Jailers Arrested in Cellphone-Smuggling Case

The four are accused of accepting bribes to take devices to inmates at the downtown federal jail.

By Andrew Blankstein, Times Staff Writer

Three jailers and a former guard at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles were charged Thursday with smuggling cellphones and cigarettes to inmates in exchange for nearly $20,000.

The U.S. attorney's office alleged in court papers that three of the guards delivered cellphones to two inmates, including a convicted bank robber and a convicted drug trafficker But the inmates, who were cooperating with federal officials in exchange for more lenient sentences, surrendered the phones to authorities. The arrests capped a nearly yearlong sting operation that began when federal officials received tips from inmates who said guards were providing certain prisoners with banned items such as phones and cigarettes. Federal authorities said they enlisted the help of the prisoners to set traps for the guards, whose actions were recorded on videotape. In one case last year, prosecutors said, guard Juan Cortes, 34, was recorded while allegedly receiving $6,000 in an unmarked envelope from an undercover agent who was posing as a relative of another prisoner.
During the exchange, which was made in Cortes' car at a Denny's restaurant parking lot near downtown Los Angeles, the agent handed the cellphone to Cortes, who later allegedly gave the phone to the prisoner. Two weeks later, Cortes allegedly met the same agent and accepted a second payment - this time $5,000. Cortes kept the money but never delivered the cellphone, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Daniel Shallman.

Cortes left the Metropolitan Detention Center a short time later to take a job as an immigration enforcement agent for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."The willingness to deliver cellphones to inmates is extremely egregious and dangerous conduct," Shallman said. "Cellphones are powerful tools in a facility like this, either to call in orders or to keep committing crimes."Cortes, of San Diego, was put on administrative leave by the immigration department in November 2005, after he was arrested by local police in an unrelated case in which he was charged with attempted grand theft and forgery.Cortes was out on bail in that case when FBI agents arrested him Thursday morning.

Later that day, Cortes appeared in federal court to face two counts of bribery and two counts of providing contraband to an inmate. He could not be reached for comment. He faces a maximum of 31 years in federal prison if convicted of all charges. His next court appearance will be for arraignment Monday. Cortes was released on $75,000 bond. Also making their first federal court appearances Thursday were guards Anthony Robuffo, 39, of Fullerton; Ricardo Campos, 26, of El Monte; and Juan Nieto, 30 of South Gate. They were released on bail.Shallman said the sting operation followed this scenario: An inmate would place an order with the guard, who was given the phone number of the relative or friend on the outside.
Robuffo, a jailer for three years, met an agent at a McDonald's in Seal Beach on May 30, 2005, where he received $1,500 to distribute several cartons of cigarettes, prosecutors said.Investigators said they used Rothman cigarettes to avoid confusion with the more popular Marlboros, making the contraband easier to track. On June 7, the same agent met with Robuffo at the same McDonald's and received $5,000 in return for providing a cellphone to the jailed drug trafficker, Shallman said. Robuffo was worried about smuggling a charger for the phone, so he offered to juice up the phone himself, he said.Campos met with an agent May 13, 2005, at a McDonald's near the downtown Greyhound bus station where he accepted $5,000 for one cellphone, prosecutors said. He faces a 15 1/2 -year sentence if convicted.Nieto is accused of accepting $1,000 in return for agreeing to provide an inmate with two cartons of cigarettes. A guard since 2003, he faces 15 years in prison."We are hoping to shut down the flow of contraband into the jail and with it the ability of criminals and prisoners to commit crimes from their cells," Shallman said.

Trukos- word to the wise lil homie: do'nt give up anymore personal information. you got NO IDEA who reads this shit, bro.. We appreciate your input but cover your ass at all times.

Sorry I got off topic w/the surfin nostalgia, middle age is a bitch..

Can anyone else feel some tension? The AB's got that RICO trial coming up, ya got the shit at Wayside, Quentin's pedo 2 wks back.. There's gonna be some shit and I aint goin left OR right wing but it's a BIG mistake to open the yards the way the court has decreed...

I got my own personal pedo w/the fuggin chongos but has anyone considered the remote possibility of what the consequences could be if chicanos united? I know it aint my raza but it's also always been my contention that if there was unity there would be peace.. If there was peace there'd be "good time". There'd be a little turnover in the fuckin pinta.
Plus it'd drive the fuggin CDC bonkers!!!
